Racing gas
Does anybody have a source for racing gas? I was told Jet Cheverolet was a good one .$5.95/gal a little or a lot.Talking to George Anderson ,he mentioned $185/55gal drum in Nebraska.I thought last year at SIR $7 was high.Do you mix a home brew?

Get a 55 gallon drum.
Put 25 gallons of premium in it, 25 gallons of aviation fuel, and 5 gallons of toluene. Race gas. :JEKYLHYDE |

Just to get back on topic (I know, what a spoil sport). Small & Sons distributing in Auburn would be another source close to you. They have a retail station on Auburn Way with a dispenser for fill ups, or you can buy it in containers from their bulk plant. One thing most people don't discuss about storing gasoline in drums or buckets is the safety issue. Be particularly mindful where you keep it. As an example, in the garage, where you have a water heater and/or furnace would not be a good idea. Enclosed space, gasoline vapors, "open" flame = bad combination. I know, the car is parked there with a tank full of gasoline all the time, it's not the same...........particularly if you have 55 gallons of the stuff there. Especially when you go to transfer it (pump, pail, whatever). Just something to think about. |
Hello Michael ERA535 has a good formula we used it in the circle track cars for years,you might try the local tracks they have venders that sell high octain fuel. BEAR IN MIND YOU HAVE A 400# BOMB WITH 55 GAL. Ken

If you know a pilot he can get you avgas for about 2.50 a gal. Thats what I have been using and have had no problem. |

All joking aside, like a lot of chemicals we deal with when playing with cars, most of us should take more care than we do, especially when we decide to play junior chemist. |

I just explored an alternative. They sell Trick leaded 112 racing gas at the 76 on Portland Ave just noth of 512.$4.85 a gal .over 6 gal it drops twenty cents. Over seventy gal a year they will give 8 gal free.Bring a container they wont put in a vehicle.Jet Chevrolet wants $5.95 a gal a little or a lot.
Neighbor has a 67 Gallaxy and has made octaine booster before .I'm going in with him on the next batch. |
Seeking 55-Gallon Drum Rack for Cobra

you run it down to half a tank and then you fill it with 93 and get 101 octane...
I don't have to run race fuel but it burns more completely and the car runs cooler...plus you get a nice light grey in the pipes....and the smell...oh my lord I love the smell of racing fuel burning in the morning.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Matt |

Well now that you tell me the inside of my pipes will match the outside Hot Jet Coating, then I must get a hold of this racing gas! That sheds a whole new light on it since my 429 SCJ never gets hot or pings, of course I'm not racing at 120+ MPH down Texas backroads either!
Actually, the Shell down the road sells 3 different octane levels of race gas as well as leaded gas for those folks with non-stainless valve guides and seats, oh and for the two-stokers. Now, I will disagree with you on the plain old race gas smell being the best.... The BEST smell... is 116-octane leaded race gas, with Red Line 2-Stoke Racing Oil mixed in it, to top this off it MUST be whiffed while located at Washougal Motocross track with my RM 250 cranking about 55-hp in between my legs doing big air on the table tops. Just like the Cobra power to weight ratio, but lots more suspension and I can even scratch it without crying! I even run the pre-mix stuff in my lawn mower when it gets old for the great smell and memories it brings!!!! Kevin :JEKYLHYDE |
