The tale of two replicas

My wife and I took a drive up Hwy 14 east today and ended up at Stonehenge which is a replica of the - shall we say "Real Deal".

It was kind of hazy on the way up to Stonehenge.

Second rest stop - we passed up a group of motorcyclist that were taking a group photo. I think we interrupted them as they all started to wave at us as we drove by. I bet the guy taking there picture thought they were waving for the photo.

Just another photo op moment. We past a couple of trains on the way and I guess they also like cobras, because they blew there horn as we past them...pretty cool!

Here we are in front of the replica of Stonehenge. "A Replica by a Replica"

It was hot and dusty, but we met a few nice people there that were car nuts like us. We talked for a little while about there cars and ours.

It was tough to get a good picture, because there was so many people walking around and through the thing.

Thats all of the pictures I took today.

As we started home we decided to take a trip to Hood River and stop by Packers to have a smoothie, and visited with a few more on-lookers. We left for home from there, and on the way I caught a glimpse of this red car with white stripes heading east on Hwy 84, it was a new Ford GT. I went nuts for a moment telling my wife to look at the new Ford GT40 coming towards us. After I got through acting like most of the people that see our cars for the first time, I re-composed myself and drove home.

Thats all

Thanks for the comments!

nikbj68,

That's funny that they say CSX3288 was sold by Ron Tonkin Ford. I will have to look into this more Monday. See Ron is Marv's brother and I have always thought that Marv was the only one with the Ford Dealership. I work for the Ron Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland so It shouldn't be to tough for me to find out.

Hi Allen

It looks like the lettering is holding up pretty good, has the color changed or is that just road grime, any peeling? I've been up that byway in a Miata, can't wait until I can do it in my car.

John

Hi John - My lettering turned yellow as soon as I used tire dressing, got to re-do the lettering this winter. Not bad for near two years and I think t would have lasted longer if I didn't use the dressing on them. There hasn't been any lifting of the paint at all. It is well worth the effort in my book. BTW - I am off for another two days and decided to go north in the cobra towards Seattle and up to Whidbey Island, Washington it should be another fun drive. Will post pictures lator.**)

Personally, I like the 'vintage' look of the lettering as it is!!!
I love the way that so many people are linked to, or were part of, all of the Cobra story, from start up to date....and are happy to share that knowledge & insight with those of us who missed it 'first time around', even to details like which dealer sold which car!
Make sure the camera is fully loaded!!!Have a great trip, Allen!
Nik.

I've seen that stonehenge up in the gorge. When was it built?

I also like the yellowed letters. Looks more authentic:cool:
