C6 Corvette spy photos
Image of C6 Vette on surface plate show fixed headlights, getting rid of a lot of weight. Rumor is engineers are shooting for 2,700 pounds and performance of the Z06 with the standard model.
Thought is was a Viper at first glance!

Looks like the Vette is morphing into a Camaro. That's a shame! C'mon GM let's get some nice styling cues in there so that people know it's a Vette and don't have to search for the badge to be sure.

When it comes to performance weight is everything!! Running fixed headlights just makes good sense. There is only so much you can do with them and still maintain a good aero approach.
IF they get the car down to 2700 pounds it will be able to compete against ANY car world wide. I really don't like Vettes, but I gotta say, the last couple of years they have gotten my "respect". There the car I love to hate the most now!

GM just doesnt seem to have its head on right. After owning a number of vettes I am on my last a 2002 coupe which has been a nightmare. How many people would pay an extra $5 to $10K for a proper automobile? Performance isnt everything, a nicer interior with much less plastic would be nice. Just my rant I guess...

Chifo,
How can a guy with a COBRA say...
"performance isn't everything" or "a nicer interior would be nice"
Seriously though, I am a big believer of the old "monday car" vs "wednesday car" theory, I just got rid of my '92 vette for the Cobra and I have to say that it was a great car. I had 125,000 miles on it and never had to do anything other than tires, brake pads and oil changes to it. Had nothing but a blast with it but I do know other guys that had nothing but trouble with theirs.
Cars are like anything else I have come to believe, its just the "luck of the draw"
Have a good one,
Dan

Interiors?
Chifo, what don't you like? I have a low mile 98 Nassau Blue 6spd convertible with black leather. I also have a cobra, and a gt40. The other two cars are faster no doubt, but I'd rather be in the vette if I have to drive more than an hour or so. Seats are great, all the toys to play with, and I fit fine even though I'm 6'1 and 240.
Sure, it could use another 200hp, but it is a very nice road car. Handles like a knife, and stops on a dime. If they can trim 1300 pnds off the next version and it's not butt-ugly, there is another spot in my garage for one! Scott

Here's a look at an assembled car and some other views of the prototype on the surface plate. I think the C5 and the new C6 offer the best performance for the dollar. Click on the following:

Might consider the Z06 option as a daily driver. Had a great time in my brother's Z06. Yes, it's not a Cobra what with the CD player, A/C, active handling, power windows, 30 mpg, and cruise, but I guess I could live with it on long trips.

I'd bet the farm(if I had one ) they'll never get a production Corvette to 2700 lbs.
Btw, the red version looks very RX8'ish. (which is not really a bad thing)

I don't know why but my first impression on the Red car was "Cheetah". Not impressed though. I haven't been impressed since the early 70's....

Looks to me like the white one is a VERY mildly tweeked C5, the frontal shot looks to me like a Honda S2000. The red version looks like the idiots at Caddy design team penned it. I like the more rounded euro and Ferrari looks (Modena, 456GT, 550), of course they say opinions are like A-holes. We've all got one.

Looks like a cross between the Nissan Z and a Corvette. Not very attractive in my opinion but if they can put it on a diet and up the power it gets my respect. The Z06 is very respectable already!

I heard the car may end with few variations. 500HP-600HP-700HP.
I have heard such outrageous claims from the General before. This one came from sources who were in a position to know. They were involved with the design team. Mentality of the new leadership, namely Bob Lutz makes it somewhat believable.
After all, he is the same guy who was responsible for the Viper.
He has been quoted to say, He has not seen an American Sports Car that couldn't use more power!
I will believe it when I see it.

If the C6 styling even starts to look anything like the last Camaro in front and a Cad in back, the designers and executive team better start getting their resumes ready.
Man, personally I don't care how fast, powerful, or light it is... whats it gonna take for a powerhouse Corporation like GM to figure out how to make the lines and the back of a car's shape flow like art? For them, I hope this isn't the final cut.

So far, so good in the styling department. Just wish we had a clear shot of the front, but it'll come soon. Whatever it looks like, getting rid of the Mickey Mouse headlights is a major improvement.
