Who makes the body/frame for the fiberglass CSX 7000/8000 for Shelby ? Do they still make the component kits ? I saw csx 8025 here
http://www.shelbydistributionusa.com...spx?Albumid=29 no tranny/engine yet anyone know about it ? SDR ________ Medical marijuana |
The CSX7000 series is relatively low volume, compared to 4K/6K series.
The CSX8000 is even smaller in production numbers. I don't know what the sourcing is as of today. Both glas cars were developed for in-house production last decade... I don't know if they still support the in-house chassis fab. The aluminum 7000s were based on a KMP platform, with a brief venture (7500 series) into rollers from an AC derivative company in UK. |

Last I checked with SAI there were none available, there are builders that build KMS cars to SAI spec and for a fee can get a CSX#. If SPF, HiTech South Africa, ever produces the 289 it might be your best bet as they will be SAI approved/blessed. You could also buy used as there are 7000 series cars available from time to time, one on Cobra Country now. Have not seen an 8000 for some time. http://www.cobracountry.com/cobra4sa...IA-cane-ca.jpg Wanna buy mine? Kidding... |
I was at Shelby a couple weeks ago and they had a 8000 fiberglass car made inhouse in Las Vegas.

Well there you go, call them up and buy it SDR...... Very limited and probably worth the $ as there are few.....

The 7000 fiberglass cars like Ron said have been made in very low numbers. They along with the early 4000 fiberglass cars were the only Shelby cars made 100% by Shelby frame body etc. Aluminum cars in 7000/7500/8000 were made by AC or KMP and some others.
Are the fiberglass cars still available and made by Shelby, not sure. Aluminum would most likely come from KMP (body and chassis only). I do know of a company making original style fiberglass 289 FIA’s they just finished their first unit. They are supposed to be for sale here now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZFcpYSnUCE What car drives better, IMHO hands down the 7000 cars are the best handling. They are a real joy to drive, no heat, plenty of room and they will hang with any big block. That is why I sold the 4000 and kept the 289. |
One owner I talked to recently has about 60,000 on his CSX8000. No time for the "net", he's to busy driving his car. :)

All fiberglass 7000 & 8000 cars, frame & body, are made by SAI. My understandning is that they are made at the prison, but I may be mistaken about that. The aluminum cars are sourced from Kirkham, but my understanding is that the cars built for SAI are different. More on that in a bit.
The car took until about September of 2009 to get to the guy who is finishing it for me. It took probably 8 months just to get to the paint shop, then after the build out it took several months for the handmade grill to be completed. If you look at the picture on Shelby's page (the same picture is on my picture page here) there is no grill in the car, it was still waiting for the grill when SAI used the car for PR photos. Once the car got to my builder, the real nightmare began. The car it totally different from a fiberglass car, even the motor mounts different. The aluminum cars use original motor mounts, those took a while to find. This car is designed to be as original as possible, down to a K code 289 with cast iron intake with Ford 4 barrel carb & cast iron exhaust manifolds. At every turn problems have been encountered, parts had to be hand made, fabricated or one-offed. For instance, we found that the footboxes are actually molded from an AC Ace, so they were designed for the 6 cylinder. They are OK with headers, but didn't work with the cast iron manifolds. So, the manifolds had to be mildly milled to clear the footboxes, but that's not going to be visible. The throttle linkage had to be hand made. And, try to find an original brass radiator overflow tank. Right now it is having the stainless exhaust finished , the exhaust shop has been working on it for 3 weeks so far. From there the engine gets fired up for the first time (in the car) and it gets tuned. Then it's off to the alignment shop and I get to go pick it up. I figure mid-April, which will be a total of 22 months. If the cars are built to original specs, the 427 cars I think are a more reliable handling car. The leaf spring suspension can be a bit unpredictable and tends to slide more than the coil spring cars in turns. The big torque of the 427 can really bite you in a turn though. Yes, TRT is Terlingua Racing Team. Also, the roller that kris-kincaid saw in January at SAI is CSX8040, nice blue fiberglass car. It's not for sale, it's for Amy Boylan. |
