Seeking originality on a street car with an oil cooler?? Why bother when a cooler is 'wrong' in the first place?

Which is why I told him to "forget originality" in the first place. If the red and blue fittings offend thee, then pluck them out... or brush them away, as the case may be.

Oven cleaner or TCP used for cleaning walls will remove the anodizing without scuffing the surface of the aluminum fittings.

My car came with colored fittings, but swapped them all out. Tried removing the color but elected to replace.

Ordered a set of 48 IDA today from Red Line. Their fuel lines comes with the colored fittings. Elected to home brew them. It can take a little work to source the naturals.

No it doesn't. Aeroquip makes nickel finished AN.

Yes but on an S/C, not street car.

computerworks 01-19-2013 08:05 AM

Actually, that is a Comp, not an S/C ;)

patrickt 01-19-2013 08:30 AM

427 Street -- just remember, if you decide to change out the fittings instead of brushing them clean, or using some sort of poison goo on them, make sure you do a careful job, not a half-ass job. Those lines (hopefully) see a regular pressure of 60 psi and you might very well surge to a good bit more than that. These are not fuel lines with 6 psi. If you don't do it right, the line will pull out from the fitting and you're likely to burn up your engine before you notice the gauge or the smoke.

-Because it made 601HP with 'dangerous' wires.

Well, since you asked...:p Yes, I learned the hard way about the "correct" wire order on the driver's side of FEs when Jerry dinged me for twenty points at the last concours d'elegance. Back in the old days, Ford flipped the wires to help separate plug wires 7 and 8, which had a tendency to cross-fire. Now, I never had a cross-fire wth them in numerical order, but I do have the entire 8 wire order rotated a couple of slots from the original #1 placement, so 7 and 8 don't run along side one another all that much anyway. Truthfully, the Moroso wires are probably just better than the older 60's crap. Here's a shot of the order as specified by Jerry.

ERA Chas 01-19-2013 12:11 PM

^^^You could disconnect 3 of the 8 wires and still have the same 345 HP that LaPine built you.

601HP 01-19-2013 12:30 PM

Yep. I was savvy to that potential after reading my copy of Steve Christ's BIG-BLOCK FORD ENGINES, pg. 153, many years back. That's why I decided to try these about 12 years ago. So far, no problem!:p

Alright Chas, for the rest of the day I want you to study the difference between real power, apparent power, and reactive power and be prepared to expound on the subject later this evening in this thread.

ERA Chas 01-19-2013 01:39 PM

Prepare THIS-
I'll be doing better things this evening than looking for your quiz Mr Wizard.

427street, I agree the red/blue fittings look old to me too. I'm in the middle of changing all my fittings to black fittings and black/silver hose ends.

Mando: The black/silver look awesome. That's the direction I am going with my ERA FIA with my new KC 331.

Okay, everyone after me:

"Hi. My name is [insert your name here]. I am a recovering Cobra originality nut..."

Kidding aside. I walked in to the Shelby tent at the 2012 Historics and was examining the flip-top Cobra. Guess what? Red and blue steel-braided lines everywhere. Now, if the owner of THAT car dismisses originality...

You know, just sayin'...
