Horn mounts
I have the (hopefully) correct Lucas 7H horns for my leafspring 289. I know they weren't always fitted in the same place, but does anyone have a photo of a typical installation before I start drilling holes in the frame for brackets?
Thanks Roger |

Wow! Never expected them there - I was planning on fitting behind the grille, in front of the rad! Those look like 9H horns, with the big hemispherical casing. Still available new from Holden.
Thanks - food for thought.... |
Which horns are the correct version for a 289?
Lucas 7H Lucas 9H Lucas WT618 ??????? |
In basic terms, Lucas 7H Windtone.

Hi Larry
Thanks for the information. Did they use the Lucas 7H Windtone on all rack and pinion Cobras? I’m asking as they did change from Lucas electrics and Smith gauges (CSX2126 -CSX2200) to Ford electrics and Stewart Warner gauges (CSX2201 – CSX2589). It seems to me that AC Ace did have WT618 installed |
The 7H is the horn described in the original Cobra chassis instruction book printed by AC Cars, for r/p leafspring cars. The book gives part numbers 69087A and 69090A, p. 53.
Of course, this doesn't mean that's what they used, exclusively. |
I’ve this manual in front of me and my confusion was started based on a post I found on the acownersclub forum:
Lucas Part number Low 69087A High 690090A Model WT618 Horn Relay part number 33188B model 6RA AC Owners Club - Horn |
I think the WT618 went out of production about 1962. It's possible some early worm and sector cars had that horn but as far as I know, all (including the R&P cars) came with the 7H.
