Identifying dash warning lights 289

I’m trying to identify the dash warning lights used un a 289 dash (in this case the same as used on CSX 2514)

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=14995

Green: Flasher warning lights should be Lucas WL12.
Red: Ignition warning light ? (some information I found mention Lucas WL3, but this is not a WL3) ->?
Blue: Main beam warning light (small lamp on top) -> ?

If you know a source for them it would be highly appreciated.:)

Dan

"A" for the day! Always great to get your detailed information.
I know I appreciate it tremendously.

Thank you
Jeff

High beam indicator is replicated. Two styles are made, long and short. You need the long one. Lucas style indicators are also replicated. Acton may have them.
The tough one is the ignition lamp. It hasn't been replicated as far as I know but the fixture can be bought on eBay pretty easily. Ford Truck emergency flasher lamp. You can have a new bezel made.

Just for completeness, the picture is a little easier for COB/COX cars: Lucas ignition warning light - as used on earlier Triumph TR, or MGA. Small green indicator repeaters are made by SVC, and the high beam indicator is a red jewel light set into the face of the tachometer, just visible in the photo. This is COB6029, John Haynes' car (he of the manuals).

Roger, what's the cable pull over the glovebox?

Larry,

Pretty sure that's a map light.

Armrer 02-15-2016 04:46 PM

I have to chuckle when I see ash trays in these cars. The world was your ash tray back then

This is the reason why I like this forum.

You get an amazing amount of detailed information back from many different members.
Many thanks for that!:)

@rsk289: The ignition warning light on your picture is a Lucas WL3 and you can get them replicated from SVC as well. (search for “COIL WOUND DASH WARNING LIGHTS RED”)

@ Dan: you should write a book with all the information/pictures you can provide.

Correct, it's a map reading light. One source has suggested this was a factory fitment for UK cars, but I'm not convinced. Trouble is, there aren't many UK cars available to check, and most have been heavily 'restored'. COB6029 has been molested very little, however. But this kind of aftermarket light was very common in the late sixties - I had one in my Morris Minor Traveller.

FYI, the high beam jewel is replicated but the lamp socket Dan posted appears to be Cobra specific and isn't replicated. You can use the lamp socket from the 40 Ford to make it work though.

Hi Larry

Many thanks for the picture. I found allready some sources for it.

Do you've any information about the ignition warning light? I was not able to find a seller for it until now.

LMH 02-16-2016 09:45 AM

Ford Truck Emergency Flasher Lamp but with a plain bezel. Came on trucks in the early-mid 60's. Cobra specific though as an assembly, not used on other vehicles. The truck flasher lamp is common on eBay. Have someone matching out a bezel to replace the factory bezel and have it chromed.

Note the flasher lamp on the right. They come up for sale fairly often as just the lamp assembly w/o the switches and other hardware. You'd need to have a new bezel made to replace the "Emergency" bezel.

I made my ignition light using an off-the-shelf red 3/4" indicator light and a switch bezel off a big early 60s Ford. I milled a 3/4" hole in the bezel and inserted the light. The headlight indicator is just a red LED press-fit into a stainless finishing washer. Not concours, but I think a fair representation.

ALF 02-28-2016 08:47 AM

I've the ignition warning light (as used on Ford Bronco's) on my desk.
Now the challenge starts to get the "Emergency" bezel replaced with a blanc one.

ALF 04-20-2016 04:39 AM

Still had no luck finding someone reproducing the blanc bezel for me.
Have the Ford version in my hands, but this is with the "Emergency" text on it.

LMH 04-20-2016 07:27 AM

As far as I know, it was produced as an assembly for Cobra only. Chances of finding an original from a Cobra are somewhere between slim and none. I think Jeff was THE lucky one! We are looking at making some bezels but so far, it's been way too expensive. (read thousands of $$)
Someone who does machining might be able to make one, so that might be something to look into.

Repop, there will be takers cool:

ALF 04-20-2016 10:51 PM

Yes and I'm still hoping Nick or John can help.

The warning light is mainly done out of 4 parts.
  • bulb holder
  • retainer
  • front cover
  • red lens

The point is now finding some one able to reproduce a blank front cover.
