Angle of dashboard?
Hi all,
What angle from the vertical should the dash panel (dropped-centre roadster dash) be? There could be clearance 'challenges' for my speedo, so need to know how much I can angle-out the dash and still be correct. Cheers, Glen |
On my 427SC, the dash panel is 17 degrees from vertical. This is not a drop center type, though.

Not sure about the dash but the firewall tilts forward, towards the engine. Makes for more room behind the dash.

Cobra Restorers drawings place the 427 dash at 20*. One may assume they might be the same between models? Mike. |

I had not noticed it before, but this photo makes the firewall angle look substantial.

Let's tie it down to another reference point (because I do want it to look correct)....
Should the dash panel be approximately perpendicular to the axis of the steering wheel? On my ERA 427SC, the steering wheel angle from vertical is 15 degrees, while the dash panel angle from vertical is 17 degrees. So there is 2 degrees difference between the two.

Not sure about original cars but...
Superformance MkIIIs are about 8 degrees Factory Five MkIVs are about 18 degrees Even at 8 degrees off vertical the sun can reflect back when behind and low. I like the IP closer to vertical. Jim |

I'd rather have the dash angle correct to the originals and have adequate clearances for gauges.

Hi Glen,
The ends of the dash are curved inward and are mounted to the cowl/scuttle tube above the door hinge bracket. Also through the glovebox area if used. I would recommend additional bracing to the 3/4 tubes behind the middle as well. Check out 1985 CCX's scratch builds for detailed 289 build pics.. |

Oh definitely! I want a five speed transmission, which of course deviates from original. Anyone who has driven an original on the freeway at speed would understand that too!
