Rodknock, I think you don't have any idea about replicas or toolroom copys, a csx 4/6/7/8000 is not automatically a replica, there is something more to do, and its not even necessary to have the csx vin for that (but nice to have for sure), perfect replicas especially with FIA HTP are north of 300k (€) in Europe

Hmmm, with a Euro equaling about a $1.17US, I think ol' RodKnock would airlift his car out to me if I put $300k on the table.

Yes, automatically. We've had this debate over and over again. And I'm personally not interested in debating it again.

Any Cobra built and sold after 1967-1968 is a replica. Shelby has been building replicas since the 1990's. As Evan used to say, check your SAAC Registry.

WTF is a "toolroom copy" anyway?

$300,000 Euro for a replica? You can buy one in the US for $200,000 or less. Allegedly, Evan sold his CSX4206, which was claimed to be one of the best Cobra replicas for $228,000-ish (?) IIRC, BUT someone here on CC with knowledge of the transaction said it sold for much less.

There are no perfect replicas. The materials used in the Year 2018 didn't exist in the Year 1962-1968.

Hey crendonman427sc !!!!

Having fun yet?

Guys,
Considering the age of that glass CSX that just sold, I'll bet he had less than $90k in it. I think that VIN went back quite a few years, no?

Are we talking about pre-tariff or post-tariff?

Yes, as I said, if you bought a long time ago, like me, and sold today, you might make some money. But glass CSX rollers, last time I heard, were $115,000. If your building one today, with engine, trans and all the other details, what could you sell it for after finishing the build and driving it around a little? CSX4753 sold for $99,000 or less.

Rodknock, for a more constructive discussion, please inform yourself

I suggest you do some research and "inform yourself."

I'd suggest you START here. Jamo closed this thread after 64 pages. Read it and become informed:

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-...-argument.html

Anything built post-1968 is a replica. Period. End of argument. Everything else is a copy, reproduction, facsimile, replica, etc.

RodKnock 06-05-2018 12:40 PM

BTW, a note to the OP, this is an example of the arrogance of SOME "originalist replica" owners. ;)

I need to "inform" myself.:LOL::LOL:

patrickt 06-05-2018 02:36 PM

Well I think I have an original replica, and I'm stickin' to it.

BUT....it didn't end well for 'REAL 1'
Didn't he also end up selling his car?

Yes, he sold his car though I like to think I didn't have anything to do with his decision to sell. The car needed lots of sorting out once the buyer took possession of it.

I'd like to think that once he was banned from ClubCobra, he was so angry and distraught, that he decided to sell his Cobra.

And I'm more than little surprised that his Cobra needed sorting, since over the years, he would tell us here on CC that his car was having a "spa day" at HRE, Billy Andrews' shop.

I'd like to know more about the need for sorting as well. Evan always portrayed his car as approaching "perfect," so I'd be open to any specifics.%/

LMH 06-07-2018 11:59 AM

I know the brakes were virtually non existent and didn’t function properly. Also the drivers seat needed to be reupholstered as it was built up with so much padding, the owner couldn’t drive the car. I’m guessing Evan must be about 3’ 5”. I know there were other issues but I don’t know specifics about those.

Now that's pretty funny.

RodKnock 06-07-2018 12:55 PM

For roughly $200,000 +/-, I'd be expecting the brakes to work flawlessly. I mean, holy cow, maintaining the tires and brakes seems like something any dimwit can do, and PLUS, I'd think you would want to have the ability to stop the friggin' $200,000 car.

As for being a tad on the short side, did any one of us expect Evan to be anything other than short, and/or angry.

Ya think? "Napoleon complex" is a theorized complex occurring in people of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subject's stature. The term is also used more generally to describe people who are driven by a perceived handicap to overcompensate in other aspects of their lives. In psychology, the Napoleon complex is regarded as a derogatory social stereotype. Ripped from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_complex
