Why not just drill the holes? It will look way better than a bunch of straps and if in the future you decide to lose the rack it would be a breeze to refinish. if you want the flexibility to use the rack only when needed, then fashion yourself some color matched plugs to fill the holes.
The rack looks great, BTW.
