Default Datsun shocks

Found some better pics. Rear shocks have dust covers.

Do you know what their performance curves look like? I would expect the valve spec to be different. Also they have different fittings to Cobra shocks, which have a unique offset bushing eye at both ends for the rears, and a bushing eye one end with a pin the other for the fronts.

I was looking around online to try and find the extended/compressed dimensions of a Spax G053 in hopes of comparing it to Koni. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything that told me the dimensions! Guess they want to keep that secret!

Hi Larry, which is the Gaz 053? Afraid I don't know the numbers.
Gerry Hawkridge has had Gaz dampers made to the Koni spec - this is what I had on my car prior to finding the Konis I have now fitted, courtesy of Gerry - and they worked very well.

G053 is the Spax part number for original MKII Cobra (front). G054 is the rears.
I was curious what the dimensions were compared to your Konis.

Sorry Larry, I misread your post. Gaz is what Gerry supplies now. I had several cars with Spax dampers in the 70s and 80s and found they didn't last very long at all, so have tended not to use them more recently. I don't know anything about their Cobra fitment unfortunately.

Default shock performance 2

Charts are for the above Koni shocks on a 1967 1/2 Datsun Fairlady 2000. They wanted the overall and corner weights for the rebuild. Not Cobra related, but a possibility at the time. Interesting discussion to follow.

Hey ! Larry and others that had interest in this thread. I purchased this set of used Koni shocks several years ago. Was told they came off a leaf spring cobra. They are part number 82G-1359 They are embossed with the winged logo and are stamped 4 -70 also have the winged decal. Extended length is 14 3/8 from the center of the eye to the end of the stud. Shortest they can be are 11 inches. What do you guys think? Are they for a cobra? Also these were made 4 month of 1970 and still have the winged decal and are embossed the same way. Anyone have the Koni parts numbers.

Scaling a profile of the 289 front suspension, the damper has a static length (between mounting points) of 11.1". Add/subtract about 2" for jounce and rebound travel.
