As to keeping original parts, in my general area we have a well-known "restorer" who specializes in, well I can't say (but the logo is a bow-tie and the model name word means "pal" in some language) who is reknown for removing original parts and replacing them with repros. He thinks the customers are stupid (and they may be, for taking cars to him for a "rattle-can" restoration) and that he DESERVES the "good stuff". He then sells these parts to others who want to be "original".

Karma will seek it's own level and all will be judged...........................

Did this guy paint your car?

I bought what I thought was a fairly significant original part for the Hi Tech last year. It was a Sunburst rim and I used it with a spare tire for display. People can relate to that, I think. But to put a windshield trim piece on a cobra is kind of laughable. I paid less for the rim than the trim pieces.

I owned CSX3342

I am the guy who bought CSX3342 back in 1997 after the car had been restored. It was brokered by Lee Holman of Holman/Moody.Those parts were supposed to have come with the car but never were delivered. The guy who bought the parts on e-bay is the current owner who purchased the car from me in 2002. Those parts should have been returned. I was going to call those guys about possibly restoring my present 289 Cobra but after seeing them sell those parts never mind. I had calls from all over the country from guys in the SA Club calling me because no one knew I had sold the car. We called the current owner and he was forced into paying big $$ for parts that we should have gotten. Brian

Brian,

He definitly should have returned the parts and there is proabaly nothing that can be done about it now except exactly what you are doing. If he was reputable he would be working on your car. But as he seems not to be then it is his loss.

This is exactly why we have a registry and people working so hard to try and document these vehicles. If I ever reach a point where I can conceivably afford an original I would only buy one that has been traced in the registry. It bothers me there are people that will do that with a car like this but as prevously stated Karma kicks in somewhere along the line.
