Thanks Earnie! It really is a good price. Just a sign of the times that it's still here. As far as your spare, you can never have too many side oilers sitting around:LOL:

I had two guys interested last week and one wanted to send a deposit but opted to buy some hardwood floors for the wife instead. He made a good decision;)

Still available as of today

Stretch,

I'm looking forward meeting you in May.

Stretch,

Before you just ship it to someone free, you can loan it to me until the "beast" motor comes back...Ha!

Give me a call when you can (405-623-2690) so I can talk to you. If you don't have free long distance, I can call you right back, I just need the right number.

Do you know if the headers off the 460 would fit?

Call me,

Rocket Man

Snakecharmer 04-13-2004 07:52 AM

Headers wont fit

Good talking to you Ted. As we discussed, the headers wont fit. Best of luck with the 545. A broken crank should definitely be under warranty.

BTW, the side oiler is still available folks. Lot's of emails and calls but nobody has sent money yet. I'm beginning to wonder if it's priced to low:)

All the best,

Stretch

Learned more about motor

The motor is still available. I've got a nice gentleman from England interested and another from the south U.S. but, as of yet, no deposit. I've told a number of interested parties that I would sell this for $7,500 which is the best price going and my absolute bottom price.

I pulled the valve covers and the heads are cast C4AE-6090, with internal castings of 4K14 and 4K16. I believe that this means they are a matched pair of low risers from a 65 Cobra 427 S/C CSX3001-CSX3199, or 66 Cobra 427 CSX3301-CSX3360. See the following page to confirm http://www.nvsaac.com/shelbyparts/heads.htm.

Any insight from you experts would be appreciated. For instance where do I find the casting letter after the "6090"? I see something that could be a C or G on one of the heads.

As always, thanks for your info and critique.

All the best,

Stretch

For some strange reason your link doesn't work for me. But my link, which is apparently the same DOES work. Go figure!

Stretch,
Did you ever get together with Brent?
That Kirkham of his really needs a 427, not a 390.%/

TL,

I don't think I ever did. However, I just sent Brent an email. Thanks for the reminder my friend.

Take care,

Stretch

I just noticed the motor has soild core plug wires. Be advised solid core wires WILL damage some electronic ignition systems, like Moroso.

Snakecharmer 05-11-2004 07:28 AM

Thanks Slick!

I didn't know that and I'll put the other wires back on before it gets sold or dyno'd.

Snakecharmer,

Is that Head ID chart saying that all heads of a given casting # were exclusive to the respective cars listed, or is it saying that given a certain car, it would have heads with the listed casting #? Could I be any more confusing?

Joe

Carnut427 05-11-2004 10:04 PM

Sorry Charmer, but I don't need another SO...but I do have some info:
Rods...428CJ rods (and other HP FEs) had a 13/32 rod bolt & nut, number C7AE stamped on it. C7AE rods also came with 3/8" bolt & nut in other applications.
428SCJ and 427 SO came with Le Mans rods, which have a 7/16" capscrew that screws into the rod from the cap side...no nut on it. The Le Mans rod is the best Ford ever made for the FE with the 13/32 bolt & nut rod 2nd best. Ford also made another rod similar to the Le Mans rod which was wider and heavier. being wider, it needed a special crankshaft, and to my knowledge was used in NASCAR engines of the time.
I haven't seen an original '68 engine that was actually put in a car, but everything I ever read states they came with the 13/32 rod and a cast crank. They also came with a cast iron intake (single 4 bbl). They also came with the low riser heads, as opposed to the medium risers found on most '65-67 SO. The C4AE casting number listed as a 66 SO head confuses me, but sometimes that's a normal state of mind too. :JEKYLHYDE
Good Luck Guys,

Dan

Stretch,
I am sending you a guy (last name is Green) for this motor. He is from Delray Beach, Fla. and building an EM Cobra.

TL :MECOOL:

Snakecharmer 05-13-2004 09:43 AM

Terry,

Thank you very much. Mr. Green called this morning and I'll be speaking with him after work. If it works out, I happen to be driving to Tampa next week and might be able to save him some shipping:)

Again, thanks for the referral,

Stretch

Stretch,
We (DSCC) will be running at Gainesville Raceway, which is not too far off I-75 on Saturday the 22nd. Gainesville is about an hour or two north of Tampa. I-75 takes you into Tampa the fast way, unless you travel the way I did the last time, going thru the panhandle beachfront towns. Think I made it home from New Orleans in less than 2 weeks.:D
Anyhow, if you can fit it in, I can get the directions to you. Might even put you to work at a corner station. We will have 20 or so Cobras trying to beat up on Eng. Ed, the club president. Right now he is using the head gasket excuse - but still has the times to beat in the amature ranks.

Let's get rid of this engine - I'm getting bugged by all the stupid posts, and nobody getting up off their hip to plunk down some good old US currency - the cheap bastards - their loss!

Engine Sold!!

Terry,

First of all, I want to say thanks for all your support and kind words. I'm expecting a check from the Florida buyer that you referred!! It's good to know that the motor has found a happy home in a new cobra.

Secondly, I'd love directions to the track. I don't know exactly what the schedule is going to be like while I'm there but it sounds like a great little get away, and very convenient. I'll be finished with my seminar the evening of Friday the 21st and I'll be picking up some material sometime that day or early Saturday. If I don't need to get back right away, I'll come out and flag for you guys!

All the best,

Stretch

Stretch - Congrats on finally moving that boat anchor! I hope all will be well with whatever direction you go! Best wishes and way to hang in there.

Can I tell them about the three sleeves yet? Just kidding!

Snakecharmer 05-17-2004 07:20 AM

Tony,

Thanks for the support and I'm not getting away from Cobras, just getting some bills paid in hopes of rebuilding some funds to purchase another cobra down the road.

Take care,

Stretch

Just wondering what you are asking for your 427.
