-=NEW=- SBF 289/302/351W Weber Crossram

Finally completed machining of the first articles and put a setup together. The -=WOW=- factor is definately a 10 in my eyes and I am very pleased with the finished assembly. The manifold was designed for the 289/302 small block engine but will also work on a 351W with the use of a one piece adapter plate made by Blue Thunder. In a few weeks I will be dyno testing the crossram with 48 DCOE's against a 48IDA downdraft setup in a HP/Torque comparison test on a built 347 stroker... and maybe just for fun I will also dyno another crossram with 58's just to see how it performed as well. The complete setup is right at the same overall height as an IDA setup at approximately 10.250" from the base to highest point. It does clear the Cobra valve covers which will allow you to run roller rockers and the clearance between carb to cover is small to keep the overall setup low enough for hood clearance. If you needed to adjust your rockers, the carbs would need to be removed to pull the valve cover off. I have incorporated a standard thermostat housing into the manifold so it can be used without the need of a water log. The first run of manifolds should be completed within 6-8 weeks. If you need to get in touch, feel free to call me at (310) 779-2837 or email to chris@vintagewebers.com

The ultimate tease! :) Please fix pics.

What is the advantage of the cross ram over the traditional down draft set up?

Dennis Kelley 11-04-2006 10:15 AM

What pictures?

Woodz428 11-04-2006 02:35 PM

Dean, I believe the only REAL adavntage is more hood clearance. I don't think there is any HP difference of note.

Sweet... These are very high on my WOW meter.

Hopefully I got the pictures working now, some people could see them and others couldn't.

You could just put them in your free CC gallery, then we could all see them.

How's that? Those things look pretty *****'n to me. Are you going to base line your test motor with a good single four before going to the Webers?

The guy who owns the engine we will be dyno'ing has a set of 48IDA's on it right now and what we are looking to do is a comparison test of downdrafts and sidedrafts of the same size and then try a few more pulls with an all out race setup with a set of 55's to see how much power we can get from the motor. With the longer runner we are hoping to get more usable torque and horsepower over a broad rpm range. I'd like to also try it with a 4bbl as well but we won't have the entire days use on the dyno.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give you all an update... I was down at Moon Equip. today and saw that Blue Thunder makes a one piece adapter to allow a 289 intake to be run on a 351W block - how sweet is that! This works out perfectly for everyone with the 289 and 351W in their Cobra. Oh, and don't forget to let the wife know what you want for Christmas!

Excuse my lack of knowlegde with webers pricing but thats without the carbs, right?

Thanks
tim

dlampe 11-18-2006 09:28 AM

That is without. The carbs will be at least $2000 to $3000 more! I think it is totally worth it. That is a very slick intake.

Has anyone installed one yet? What are the results?
