Ca Dmv = Dumba$$e$!
I just got a letter from the CA DMV stating that my application for a personalized licence plate has been refused. According to CVC 5105(a) they "must refuse any licence plate configuration which carries connotations offensive to good taste and decency, or which may be misleading to some of our citizens."
OK so when did the licence plate CSX4236 carry connotations offensive to good taste and decency!? And as for the stupid citizens who are mislead; they won't be stareing at it too long, as am pulling away while they're trying to figure it out! I am truely pissed off. Can anyone who already has a CSX plate offer advise on how they got their plates? PLEASE!? |
maybe they think it means :
Casual Sex for two three or six  |
No, what it really means is that the CA DMV hates Carroll Shelby as much as most of the rest of the free world. :D

Take the denial letter, your MSO or some legitimate documentation denoting the Chassis Number (CSX4236), maybe a Digital photo of the VIN label on the car and talk with the manager of the office. There are several running on the streets with this type of conotation. The denial decision was not made at the local office but rather in Sacramento. Demand an answer for their interpretation(of the decision maker in Sacramento) and why it did not make it by the censors. Don't take this laying down. If it had a bad conotation it would not be able to be used as a VIN in the first place. Someone has misunderstood your intentions.

Just a word of advise since I have beed through the process before. Keep your voice down and don't get demanding. Just tell the office manager you want to appeal the ruling. You will get a letter of response. On the letter make sure your vin number is displayed. There is a way around it. 2 cents worth

Ask them why it wasn't offensive to them when they listed this number on your CA DMV issued title and registration?
|
Appeal!
Do just as Rick & thudmaster have suggested, appeal it! I would include a photo of your car and an explanation of what CSX4236 represents. Someone a DMV was just having a bad day, they are notorious for passing just about anything, for the revenue!
If you can locate one of the other CSX numbered plates that have already been issued and get a photo of it on the car, I'm sure that would help a lot. I have personally seen many of them. Trust me when I tell you that they have approved many, very questionable plates.;) Good luck, appeal it! jdog P.S. Please keep us posted, I will be ordering plates for CSX4795 in Jan.%/ |
Can anyone please submit a photo of your CSX # licence plate(preferabley CA licence plate)? Please!?:( That way I have some proof that my request has been misinterpreted. Thanks in advance,
-Gio |
They (DMV) can run a plate search for derivitives or partial numbers of plates right at there location. However if you just explain the real intention and have evidence of what you are attempting to replicate (Your VIN) they will realize there oversight.

I wonder if the plate may already be in use by another CA vehicle and that's why it was denied.

LMH No the plate was available, but after being reviewed, it was deemed, "offensive." Thst's why it was denied.

I had that same problem when I requested: 69 HEMI B The DMV told me that the 69 had sexual connotations (duh) and that I coudn't have the plate without written explanation. I wrote them a NICE letter explaning: 69 (year of car), HEMI (engine in car) B (short for SuperBee). I got the plate without any other problems. It DOES pay to be nice to them, sometimes:o)

This is interesting and I can't wait to find out what is offensive about a CSX#### license plate. Maybe it would offend me, but only because I can't afford one.
When you do find out please post it so the rest of us can see what the DMV is thinking. Ron |
this just popped up on the home page. Not trying to jump in your thread here, but this was posted by 'mark 11' (?) in January or so of 2006.
So, seems fairly current to me. Hope it helps. :) If I see any more I'll attach them, as well. good luck. kristen http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/Csx4794.jpg ps. CSX 4794 is a continuation, isn't it?? |
The problem is the real vs. replica debate and they do not want to play a part in
misleading the citizens. They feel your Cobra is genuine, but not original. What if a schoolboy saw it and went home and told his dad he saw an original Cobra ? |

Dad: "Sure, son. And, oh, by the way...Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny aren't real, either." |
LOL:LOL: Now that's funny.

Tried to get my CSX number from DMV in New York, already taken huh........Turns out they use the CSX as part of the regular plate numbers here. Guess we don't have "good taste and deceny" and we don't get offened. Oh well probably some rice burner running around with my CSX number on it. Put a vintage plate on instead, looks good but still would have liked my CSX number and there is no chance of that, I think you have a good chance of getting your plate. If you run a front plate, see if you can get "3M TA3" it will give a new meaning to "connotations offensive to good taste and decency" when the person in front of you looks in their rear view mirror. Good luck |
Not original, but a 'real' Shelby none the less! :D
|
greetings, if they want to deny that go a different and get IVQ i bet that gets thru. do you get it?? IV=4 Q=Q 4Q i think you get it now. dmv what fun. see ya later Mark G.
