street tire or slick

is the delineation between the two whether it is dot approved or not? so a kumho v710 would be considered street tire?

Clois Harlan 07-20-2009 06:11 AM

Yes,

But, in the past classes have been also diveded by those street tires whose tread ware rating is 200 or lower is considered a PREPARED CLASS TIRE and all those tires with tread ware rated at 201 or higher are considered STREET Class TIRES.

Clois what was the cut off for small block?

vector1 07-20-2009 07:51 AM

399/400ci cutoff for classes, so if i have a 406 i have to run with bills 408? how much faster are the guys running bb's w/450+ ci's?

i see the v710 is rated at 30, so that would be considered slick, thanks for the clarification.

Clois Harlan 07-20-2009 08:14 AM

NO, the V710 would not be a slick but a DOT tire that can be ran on the street and with a treadwear rating of 30 you would fall in the Prepared BB class which usually has the fewest competitors. Last year there were only three or four in that class.

Based on what you have told me you would be running in the BB-Prepared Class

Small blocks are anything under 400 cu in.

By the way the 351 bb configs usually out perform the FE style BB.

Ther not I was thinking Morrises winged Kirkum is the fastes BB but he is in pro class SBF's SBC's hold ther own ;)out ther unless we were talking drags but thats been nixed:CRY:

Bailey 07-26-2009 01:42 PM

Did someone say drags??

That V710 is an excellent tire, I had been running them for a couple of events, very sticky when hot, and it almost seems like there are an unlimited amount of heat cycles. After these R6s run out of life, I'll most likely go back to them.
BB prep is a diversified class, a little bit of everything.
Gettin close.......

Clois Harlan 07-26-2009 06:43 PM

I hope you make it this year Richard. I missed our on track competition last year. I may never be as fast as you but I will offer a little more competition than I did a couple of years ago.

If fate works in my favor I may have a my coupe ready for this years Run N Gun. I am thrashing on mine so keep thrashing on yours. :)

Back to the classes. Wouldn't this fall into the new GT/2A Prep class?
Looks like a pretty good chance that I'm in for this year, only ten more weeks to figure out how to drive....

WildBill3 07-27-2009 02:19 PM

Im not shure i get it power adders blowers and turbos classed the naturally asperated cars of the same weight class:CRY::CRY::confused::confused:I think that cat with the blown silver roadster was like 3 sec faster last year ..

Bailey 07-27-2009 02:53 PM

Yeah, it's pretty clear, over 2000 lbs, and over 400CI is in together. It certainly adds a little spice to the mix.

vector1 07-27-2009 04:01 PM

looking at tires and from what i understand, khumo v710 last longer not so sticky, hoosier r6 stickier then 710's for 5-6 cycles then fall off.

anybody have experience with other brands? something that stays sticky forever and doesn't wear out too quickly?

WildBill3 07-27-2009 04:29 PM

Hmmm stays sticky forever and dosnt wearout to quickly no such tire.We run A6's on the back R6's in front. And had good fortune with that combo last year:D.Morris runs A's allround most know how fast he is What did the pro from BD run last year?

Bailey 07-27-2009 04:58 PM

I believe they were all out slicks, not DOT tires.

WildBill3 07-27-2009 07:26 PM

Getting my A$$ kicked by cars that have 150 or more HP than I do doesnt sound like that much fun right at the moment.:(

vector1 07-27-2009 10:36 PM

wonder since our cars are lighter if the a6 would be better then the r's, especially if running in cooler weather. need to call hoosier and see what the compound is similiar to for comparison.

Bailey 07-28-2009 04:23 AM

Bill, that's still better than having you butt kicked by a car with 150 LESS hp:eek:

Clois Harlan 07-28-2009 05:12 AM

I think Tony Martin could probably run "May Pops" and turn incrediable times because he is just that good of a driver. But, back to the subject of tires, I think both Tony Martin and Reg Dodd were running slicks on their Backdraft cars.

Richard I thought you were running slicks all the way around the last couple of years?

WildBill3 07-28-2009 05:12 AM

Ok well you have a piont ther.I have been on the short end of the stick before its just when thers comparable engines it comes down to setup and drivers not HP I would rather get beat by a better driver in a slower car than get outgunned under the hood .The A6's wont overheat in the cool weather in fact my last timed run near the last lap of the session is when I had my lowest time and that was on used tires.Give Fossport an email they did us good.
