9" rear end chop
I have decided to go with a solid axle of the 9" ford class. I have one from a pickup that I will chop down to size. I'm not sure what that size should be exactly. Can someone tell me what the hub to hub measurement should be? Another question.... what size wheels and tires, and what kind of offset is the norm for these cars?

Hold it....before you do the "Chop,Cut,Rebuild" thing on that P/U rear end......
check with the manufacturer of whatever "Cobra" you have chosen to find out what they recommend for width, tire size, and wheel back spaceing BECAUSE not all "Cobras" are the same....... you would probably be better off to get a 9" already set up from that manufacturer.....a lot less of a headache in the long run.... |
Probably the best way to find out is to put your body on your chassis with the wheels you want to use and take some measurements. You can get backspaces these days in just about any size you want, so if you want the deep dish look, you are probably looking at a 3 1/2"-4" backspace on whichever wheel size you choose- 15" or 17". A number of replicas are set up to use stock Mustang or other wheels with a backspace of around 6"-6 1/2". Much cheaper source of wheels if that is a concern to you and you can probably find 9" rears already shortened for your purpose.

Thanks
Thanks for the heads up. That makes sense and the less headaches the better.
