Default 289 Comp Car - Build

Guess I have joined the ranks of the scratch builder?
Plans:
Slabside comp car with Joseph flares (CSX2375 style)
CSX2375: Yes this is Fran's car!

Engine

BW 4spd by Keith Craft

Frame:
Original 289 style via Sagebrush Roadsters
Transverse leaf suspension
Adjustable A-arms
SAI 7000 series corners using FIA 6-pin wheels treated to look the part
Pedalbox internals via Acton Custom

Body
Hand laid glass slabside via Sagebrush Roadsters
Flares = aluminum with roll bead via Acton Custom
Ally hood via Panel Craft
Ally doors via Allen B
Ally boot (Trunk) Panel Craft
Rollbar via Acton Custom

Pictures of the start..................

Special thanks to all that are helping and answering the hard questions and aiding in my build:
Acton Custom - Nick Acton
Lynn Park
Bill Kemper
Sagebrush - Tim Gunning
Panel Craft - Joe Stafford
John Bessey
Fran Kress
George Petrus
Dave Bates
Karl Davis
Karl McKeaver
Allen B
Hopefully they will all continue to talk to me once this is over...........

Hey Jeff, very nice start, that will be a very nice car when complete. Nick @ Acton Custom is a great guy to have on your team. I have bought several parts for my build from him and the quality and attention to details is the best. What paint details?
good luck, karl

Jay
Thanks for the support! Hopefully you can make our 5th annual cookout this coming summer 2010...for the uncovering of this classic.

Karl
I am thinking either Gaurdsman Blue or Rangoon Red? (Red like2375 at this juncture)

Hopefully I can get stolen $$$ back from Robert Beverley Transport so I can keep this thing going.

You and Nick are flying on the car. It looks really good. Out of curiousity, how do you transition from the glass body to the aluminum flares? Does the aluminum get encased in the glass except for the lip?

Mike

Great question!
I plan to cut the vertical portion of the fender off leaving the round off the body. I will fab a fender and attach via epoxy and countersunk rivots. Finishing with glass and filler. In theory it should work.......

Jeff

Thanks, I hope it will rival your car someday....

Your car will be the 2nd sexiest car in the world after the one you are replicating!!! I can't wait to see it done. Great choice of build!

Really nice Jeff! I love the 289 comp cars. You should copy Fran's car in every detail! I would love to do a true replica that way.

Default alum panel templates

Hey Jeff, I just remembered that I have templates for the trans tunnel, rear bulkhead, floors and I want to make templates for the engine comp panels & trunk compartment panels. When you are ready I can make copies for you.
later, karl

You mention "wheels treated to look the part," and I wonder what you did. Could you detail this with some photos, please?

Thanks much!
