Cobra Shape
Which body shape is closest to a CSX4000 shape, a Shell Valley, Factory Five, or Hurricane?

Hurricane.

Yep. It's the only one of those taken from an original car.

That's the truth. Shell Valley allegedly splashed their body from a Contemporary, which was in turn originally splashed from an original. Appearances indicate though, that the Contemporary body they used was post 1983 - after the unfortunate body alterations that ruined the Contemporary shape.

Is the shell valley car what used to be the midstates body
|
Shell Valley purchased Midstates after both companies already had established body shapes in production. I'm not sure what happened afterwards or which body they moved forward with after the buy out, but I'm certain others here would know.

I think that Shell Valley had molds for 3 different Cobras. Around 2007 they took what they thought was the best of the different bodies they had molds for and created the body they now sell. I purchased one of the first bodies from the new molds to build my car. I don't know how close the body is to an original.
Dana at Shell Valley would know for sure. He was there at the time.

FFR isn't close to original, especially the rear. It has a "perky" butt that almost everyone notices.

This info is a little outdated, the MK4 addressed this and has been out for almost 5 years. I think the Hurricane is still the closest, but the FFR is much improved and closer now.

He asks which is closest to a CSX 4000. I'm not as steeped in knowledge of Shelby continuation models as many of you. I think there are both fiberglass and aluminum body CSX 4000 cars. Are they considered to be pretty much identical and as near a duplicate of the 60s originals as hand made bodies will allow?

Thanks 750hp. From that set of pictures it actually looks like the contemporary is higher in the back than an Everett morrison. The Everett morrison is what I have currently and was looking to sell and buy a new kit to build that doesn't sit so high in back. Is a factory five's new body close to the picture of the contemporary picture on the chart.

Agreed, the photos of Mk4 cars at https://www.factoryfive.com/galleries/mk4-roadster/ appear to be far more authentic and faithful to the originals than previous FFR models / generations.

The rocker panel on the MK IV should not have been compromised.

The shape is important to me because I want to build one last cobra. I want it close to original. I like the hurricane, but does the front drop more than csx. Also is Roger Bollick doing his cobra or does he sell body's.
|
The nose of the Hurricane is slightly longer and makes it look a little lower. Every car "splashed from an original" has its issues that are not exactly like the original car it was taken from.
