Replica Cobra Mark II bodies
What is the recommended replica body for a Mark II? What is your opinion of the Shell Valley products?

Superformance and ERA probably make the best bodies. It depends on what you are looking for. Superformance only sells rollers and I am not sure if ERA would sell just a body if that is what you are looking for. I looked on the Cobra Valley website and did not see anything about bodies for a Mark II.
If you are thinking about building a Mark II similar to your step-father's, then I would go the Superformance route given your age and health concerns. ERA has a long wait list and it would take a lot of time and effort to get it put together. Mark IV, Rick Muck, is a Superformance dealer on this site and has a very good reputation. I would not hesitate to contact him. I am thinking that is where you are going with this thread, by asking that question. Correct me if I am wrong. Good Luck. Jim |

It could be rebuilt to reflect a period Hipo competition engine. These are just simple thoughts and most likely will never come to pass, but an old man still has dreams. If I luck out and come into some money I would do it in an instant, I would have an exact reproduction of CSX2049. |

Bill S. & Jim, have good points here. As an ex-racer myself, I'd always wanted a (Real) Cobra, and back in the 70's I could afford one, but Racing was my passion, and so that's what I did for 40+years, I still regret nothing with that decision, (The great friends I still have from that time). After retiring from racing it was time for a Cobra, and buying a reproduction was no problem (Real Cobras) were WAY out of my price range. I always believe where there is will, there's a way. If you truly want a Cobra to honor your stepdad, Go for it, you may have to sell some things, or wait on others, like I did, but trust me it's worth it, the reward will be ten-fold. It will give you a glimpse what your stepdad so enjoyed. Good Luck, TommyRot.

There are a few examples of combining an FFR kit and a "Mr Bruce" body.
However that seems to involve building the kit yourself, perhaps some fabrication skills and quite a bit of time. Mr Bruce does do rollers on a commision basis, but, it takes time and you must have money to fund the project for me to do the assembly along the way.

A year ago, I went to breakfast with some friends who are into old British cars, I mentioned I was thinking of getting a replica Cobra, and they said, NOT A COBRA! Then I said I was looking at the small block Cobra. Their whole attitude changed, that is a proper British car after all! Then I thought, these are a car you can go to a British Conclave on Saturday, then a drag race on Sunday, then next week, go to a road race, and a Hot Rod meet, and probably go to a Ferrari meet, where the owners of the older cars will want to take pictures of their Ferrari's next to a small block Cobra. I can't think of another car that you could do that with? Truly, a car for all seasons!

Harpoon, an insightful comment. I have found similar sentiments here in Australia.
A number count of 289 Cobra replicas here would be limited to single digits. Friends with MG's and Triumph TR's treat me almost like a long lost brother :) Extending that though... the average Ferrari owner would think my car is an MG or Triumph .... ;) Cheers, Glen |
Morris Minor's get all the P*$$Y !!
Mr. B seems to have a nice shaped 289 slab. Just make sure it's not for the FFR chassis (like the green one shown), that body is a bit lower on the side than an original style, but he has told me that he can do the OE style. I would like to see them both side by side |

Jon's green car is on an F5 chassis, 4" round tube frame, the extra lower rocker is to hide the extra 1" diameter frame tube, the 0riginal 289 cars had a 3" round tube frame. Can't show a difference in my bodys 'cause I would have to build one to take a picture, no time for that rite now. Another advantage of the higher side body is bigger people fit the car better, them Limeys that fit in the original cars were a bit smaller than todays , big fat lazy Americans.b
