Koni - bearing solved

4 Attachment(s)
As many of you know using Koni shocks has challenges.
The largest is the bearing used at the bottom rear shocks.
Bought bearings and machined width and height which needed to be addressed.

Bearing sets reside on low profile spring clips, included in the grooves.
Then off set by dust covers protecting longevity.
Very happy to have solved this issue and get this thing going.

Jeff,

Nice job! Good that you had help. I have done it by myself and it is a pain in the ass! Much easier with help. Looks great.

Who makes the seats?

1985 CCX 02-04-2025 11:35 AM

Ah, glad you ask as they are 10 out of a 10.
Built like the old HiTech seats, steel framed, rubber bladder and in Carinthian Leather or regular hydes backed traditionally.

Ah, yes - those look great!

I bought many original parts from Craig during my build. I may have to contact him about the seats. I am not happy with the Sube' Sports Vintage seats supplied by Hurricane. i've had to reglue and stitch the seat cushions, and the seat back sits above the body.

Safety

That bellhousing won't protect you from the very real possibility of a flywheel explosion Jeff, thoughts?

Here is my museum piece on my 5 bolt 289. Original Shelby factory scatter shield. Not period Ford aftermarket.

Great job!!! If I could just get my pics uploaded.

NKB and D1Z427

Much appreciated but that one you have pictured is cast 5 bolt 289 unit.
Mine pictured in this thread is a cast iron 427 unit from FOMCO, much larger than 289 and also the same units used by Shelby American on 427 Comp Cars and the S/C.
My 289 has never had an issue after years of racing and most originals used stock Ford unit. Stock 289 FOMOCO units were alloy, the cast units for special purposes only, if they blew up on a normal occasion Ford attorney's would have made them cast iron in the day. All 1965, 1966 and forward up to the Fox-body as I know Mustangs were std alloy units as the explosion hazard was very exclusive to racing. Stock hp cars, as mine are have a very very low risk in this area as I understand.
Assume same for the two 427 I have, its a rare occasion to lose a flywheel. Particularly with stock Hp and dragracing avoidance.
Also, a period cast 289 unit may protect but if your a safety concerned a newly stamped Lakewood may work and protect much better.
My HiTech 427 uses Lakewood unit.

flywheel

It may not be a real common occurrence but when it happens the outcome can be catastrophic. This guy had one let go in his garage: https://www.recordonline.com/story/l...ar/5746457007/
