Default Unique Build

I am planning on getting a Unique frame and body. I'll be adding suspension components myself. Going to use MGB stuff as basis in front...(any other possibilities?) and Jag IRS in back. Apparently, an easy solution here is an XKE suspension...no cutting required. But those things are rare! Any other possiblities? I have heard of cutting an XJ suspension to fit...but that sounds dangerous. Is this what Unique does?

So the frame you are getting has no suspension? You can buy it all from Unique. Otherwise, Hawk engineering in the UK has a nice adjustable upgrade to the MGB suspension and you can put Wilwood brakes on MBG spindles. With both all you need is the cross member, kingpins and swivel axels and rack. Check here and on the Unique forum for details. Do set up the rear with the rearward trailing arms (look at Unique's website for pictures).

I would sure check with Unique re their front suspension, which is a custom suspension and a definite upgrade from the MGB, as well as their rear Jag suspensions. They do a great job and should be competitive with anyone on prices. I have a Unique 289 FIA with their custom front suspension, Jag rear. Nice package.

Does your Unique have a removable front cross member or is it welded in?

If its removable, as others stated, get the coilover/tubular control arm front suspension from Unique Motorcars. It is a good investment in the car that future buyers will look for when you go to sell it. Works much better, and more adjustable which to me is an absolute requirement with a Unique. As for the rear, you could just build it yourself or have someone help you to set it up to the correct width spec through a good driveline shop (lower control arms and shortened axles and upgraded u-joints) and purchase the rear trailing arm setup from Unique as well.

Good Luck.

Hi Mike,

I had the MG front end with all the upgrades etc. Sold it an bought the front end powder coated unit that the Weavers sell. I further upgrded the front end with NASCAR heim jointed adjustable A-arms.

When any of the BACC guys drove my Unique the universal compliment was on how well it handled. From a very knowledgeable builder " The best handling 90 inch wheelbase cobra I ever drove"
