One over engineered shifter
Well what I thought was going to be easy wasn't. Had to move the shifter forward about 5 inches, no problem just make a Z-bend shifter, YUK that sucked the movement was all wrong, how does someone ever get used to that. I couldn't so I did what I always do Go overboard and build some over engineered contraption to do the same job. With a bunch of junkyard parts and a fair amount of time I came up with this.

Well good things come to those that wait
It's finally back from powder coat, the guy's at Extreme Powdercoating(www.extremepowdercoating.net) came through, other than being delayed by a very large job. Greg and Todd were very helpful and truly interested in doing a great job. Now here are the pics.

I was thinking you were going to go with some flash color for the powder coating after all that hard work. The incredible about of work you did and the high quality kinda get lost in grey. But, I guess not too many folks will ever get to see it naked. After seeing your doors and pieces, I'm inspired to get on with my simple patching and evening out. Your car is truly a work of art from a master.

Hey just a quick update, I have started making aluminum panels for the car. Went out and got some .063 6061 sheet and went at it. Have made small steps so far. Here are my foot wells they were a lot more work than you would think.

Hey, I have created a couple more pieces of aluminum this week. We now have floors. How do the look to you? I feel everybody has deserted me. There is hardly any traffic on the forum:(, so reply if you can. (that means all you lurkers out there)

I feel for you, as the posting has gone down. Maybe people are just busy in the fall ? I've been watching your build, and I'm in total ah,......with the talent you have and, what a fantastic cobra you will have when it's all done !!! :D I admit I'm jealous. ;) Having a Kirkham is a dream of mine. In fact, I would pick it over another dream of mine, a Ferrari F-50. . My point is, you are creating what I would consider, a very high class car and you should be as proud of it like I'm sure the Kirkhams are of theirs. I would be ! Question, have you thought of starting a business and putting yours on the market ? Thanks, |

Bruce, good catch but, the curve starts to the left of the brake pedal, and I really didn't want to see the foot well hanging down from under the car. My size 12 feet will fall to the side up against a dead pedal thingy. I like the curve but, yes I wish there was more room. I pretty much have to heal-toe it anyway. See thats what I'm looking for questions and input.

Patrick, your lookin real good, can't wait till mine is that far along. One question tho why not steel under the feet to keep out unwanted rocks and other foreign objects found on roads? Carl

Some solid under the feet sound good but don't run over branches blown down by the wind. Had a van in the local area run over a branch, followed the wheel round and puched a hole through the floor and the base of the passengers seat (vacant) ouch.
Have read the whole thread and made some notes for my up and coming build. a great effort. |

Well, it's been two weeks so I figure I better post some thing, to stave off loss of interest. I finally finished the backbone sheet metal. That has to have been the worst thing I have ever had to cover in my life. So sorry if this does not hold up to all of your high standards of my work. I plan to cover all the aluminum with either textured coating on both sides or paint / textured where you will see the aluminum. To me it looks like it was beaten into submission.

Personally I think your high standards haven't waivered,we all sit back in awe at the craftmanship of this build ..I luv the way your brain goes about things you are an inspiration to all who luv these cars ...Keep up the great work ..the fact you take the time to document your build is great, then post it on here and then reply to all the questions...damn it would probally be done by now!!:LOL: Regards Paul |

The number one thing that stands out to me, is your willingness to think outside the box, and that you readily realize that steel doesn't always have to be in a straight line :D Nice use of curved materials. This is a huge undertaking, so I envy your determination and the amount of spare time you must have available. My only concern is what the total weight is going to be when you're done. |
