Just think of the skill required to build and assemble a space shuttle. I say we clone Patrick and rule the whole freakin' universe. :D

Engine is in!!!!!!!
Quote:
That has got to be the best post come back I've ever seen. Well, got my shinney bits back from the ceramic coater this week so I set out on getting this project a little further. Finished up some small details then set out to get this engine in the car. Guess what it sill fits (barely). The transmission is in as well, still need to make a mount for the hoses and clutch slave along with alternator and starter, but it was an eventful weekend. Here's the pics. Quick update!
Did some plumbing work have some small things to show.
Or Just how much S#*T can you fit in a three pound bag. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...272_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...271_Small_.JPG finished the fuel system http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...269_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...268_Small_.JPG Plumbed in the brake and clutch reservoirs This is where the three pound bag really starts to stretch there is just not a lot of room left here, took a bit of creative thinking to get around this one. Patrick |
The creative bending is like art work, you should be teaching mini-courses on fabrication after you finish this project.

Here's the deal Patrick. Someday I'm going to win a $200MM Powerball and become filthy rich. I'm then going to build my dream home with a garage that will rival Leno's. I will build a comparable home right next door and I will let you live in it rent free. All you have to do in return is be my neighbor and build cool shiat for me. The garage will also have a stocked fridge.
Regards, -Dean P.S. It won't be in Minnesota. |
Vegas, baby, Vegas, but I don't think you could handle bar bill! Thinking this stuff up is hard work.

Weekend update!
Okay, busy weekend but still got more work done on the car.
How not to install a clutch slave, I never fabricated this during mock up, bad idea and I payed for it big time. No fun laying under the car making measurements for parts and drilling holes with no extra space. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...276_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...283_Small_.JPG Also installed the GO pedal and cable nice to see everything still fit the way it did before. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...281_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...275_Small_.JPG Mounted the starter and hooked up the power cable. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...287_Small_.JPG Last but not least Put the expansion tank and radiator / fan assembly in the car. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...286_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...288_Small_.JPG Now to get around to plumbing the coolant system and bleeding the hydraulics. We're getting closer. Patrick |
Patrick, is all the bodywork out at the painter?
-Dean |
No. The body guy is still trying to get the chassis finnished and running first.
I couldn't trust that to fit, will do that on the car, I'm sure it won't fit right if I don't. Patrick |
Now It would go with out saying that one of the more difficult systems to get working in one of these cars is the cooling system, now toss in the nightmare of the ford DOHC and you have created a monster. I hope this works, I picked up a few of those corrugated stainless hose things, they were on super mega sale. There was just no way to find all the hoses to fit this nightmare so I used them to build what I hope will work. I took it upon myself to toss the covers and cheesy hose clamps aside and bought some good ones from work. Please let me know what you think of this tubing job do you think it will work.

Nice work. Make sure you put vents at all the high points to bleed out any trapped air in the system. Lots of ups and downs you had to do.
Once all the air is out the water will move. |
The only issue you might have is sealing between the short rubber hose and the corrugated hose, getting the hose clamp on top of the rib might be the key to a good seal.
Looks good though, and I like the color. Gary. |
Is the blue plastic bottle your overflow tank? In this position, will it block too much airflow?
|
Patrick,
Make sure that you point the clamp mounting bolts in a direction that you can still get to them once the bodywork is in place. I thought I saw a few that looked difficult (I have large gorilla hands, so I think about these things). -Dean |
Couple of odds and ends
While I'm waiting for parts to show for the remote oil filter I've been tying up some small items. I made the adapters for the crank case filter breather .
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...302_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...304_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...305_Small_.JPG While the lathe was a mess I went ahead and made the hanger for the diff vent filter breather. Now I hope I don't catch a bunch of crap for moving it to the wheel well. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...306_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...309_Small_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...310_Small_.JPG Well I suppose I'll have to spend some more money to get more things to work on. Patrick |
PLugs, Wires, and stuff
Not much to do while I wait for some parts to show. Did manage to get plugs, wires, and the coils squared away. Now I've always hated the way ford stuck the coils out in front of the engine and the ran all those wires around and over the alt. leaving a huge mess. I was just going to mount them over the alt., but that didn't clear the hood so I had to move them back a ways. I think it looks okay. I left enough room to get the intake plumbed out towards the passenger side.

The drive shaft will be here tomorrow and I will start to fill stuff with fluids. Every day we get a little closer. Patrick |
I bet your palms get sweaty every time you go out in the garage now as the startup day gets closer....you are a very patient man and the proof is right here in these photos, as usual, its a masterpiece..

Your attention to detail is excellent.
:D :D |
Just wanted to praise you on your perseverance, patience, and attention to detail. When one considers that you've invested more time that 4 term pregnancies, you would have to assume that this "baby" is gonna be one spoiled little brat! Awesome!!!
