most of us buy our chassis and dont build them. try ebay to look for plans or diagrams. Your english was good enough to get your point across. There used to be a member here from Portugal named Ernesto Freitas who may be able to help with the language problem if you can find his e-mail address in the searches here

I know that most of you buy your chassis and dont build them , but , how much is a chassi in your contry?

I know i will spend a lot of money to finish my car , but here in brazil people who make kit car sold just the chassi for a amazing price ..... they spend just a little too make it , but they sold for a high price .... can you understand me ? this is the fact here

so , who have a shelby cobra here ?

May I suggest a request for chassis plans.

Someone may be willing to forward a set of plans...if you really want to weld your own. Most guys buy their chassis and go from there. The chassis usually is made with a certain body in mind.

What are you doing about the body?

Yes , it's just this plans that i want ..... i have a certain body in my mind but i want some plans ..... i know people have this plans ... so , if somebody have any plans i wolud be very happy if someone send to me.... here in brazil , nobody give instruction about the chassi building , this is the reason that i start to searche on the net and happily i found this forum . for me is the best that i saw ......

this site that i put in the beginning , have photos of the chassi that my father is modifying ( this chassi is a ford galaxie chassi , that a lot of people here modify it to build a shelby cobra ... and the body we use here in brazil ).... i don't want to make a chassi like this , but my father did .... i want to make a chassi like the photo of 14/06/06 ..... what do you think ???

i don't know if everybody is understanding me ... if have something that somebody can't understand , please say to me .....

Well, some of US perfer to build our own too. The chassis in the photo is one I have not seen before . I'm currently building one from scratch, useing photos and a set of reverse engineered plans from an original. Although I'm not going to follow them exactly they are a good starting point. besides half the satifaction is doing things they way you want them. your biggest problem may be fitting your suspension parts to the frame. Patrick

You should be able to design your own chassis these days with ideas from the various Cobra manufacturers who advertize online. Many give the specs, and everyone knows you will use a 90 inch wheelbase. Track dimensions can be fit to your own body...suspension can be based on existing coilovers that are available almost anywhere. You can buy upper and lower a-arms and rear trailing arms. Start with two 4.0 inch round steel tubing .125 wall thickness that fits between the ends of your body and just do some research. You may also use 2X4 rectangular tubing as well...just make sure it is at least .125 wall thickness. You're making a custom chassis, it does not have to be Shelby accurate. As long as you can weld and measure, you can find a way. Visit all the Cobra manufacturer websites and just do it.

Opel may have useful suspension components, as they are narrow enough for your application. Just make sure the chassis fits the body and floorplates...everythig else should fall into place. Check on other Cobra manufacturers websites for more chassis layout ideas.

Check out Kirkham motorsports, they have a lot of good photos of their chassis and suspension. They are very close to original.

Elpontoge. In the 'For Sale' section, there is an original style Cobra frame listed...very reasonable...call the guy and make an offer...it's just what you need.

bon dia,

I suggest you get the drawings from Cobra Restorers as most of us did.
they sell for USD200 and are a bit hidden on their site. They do not sell suspension drawings as far as I know.

but nevertheless I recommend to buy a chassis, rather than to copy the original one. It's quite a lot of work.

I get all the needed brackets laser cut over here in South-Africa. If you want ot cut them with a band saw you need weeks just do do that.

depending on your labour cost it may, however, be worth it.

ceers,

dominik

Alot depends on whose body you are going to use and what suspension. Original all the way becomes very limited in availability, price however is not limited!
