You gotta love the code Patrick talks in. Just say "collusion."

Well I don't know about 200 orders, but we all know they "sold out" of those black/red 50th anniversary 289 Cobras, 50 of them, although there were many sold to dealers. I haven't heard of any of those being produced yet, but that's me just speculating.

First cars are on the water as we type.......

I was told that the first one's will be fiberglass and are on their way.

If you want to talk Collusion, think about FoMoCo and any specialized mustang over the last 10 years - especially the new GT500s and BOSS 302 Laguna Seca . . .

The order stoppage is NOT a marketing ploy - I dont think the backlog is 200, probably about 100 of all types.

They have to iron out some things to make sure this works for everyone.

Keep in mind , thanks to our lovely economy, prices have gone through the roof on anything requiring transport. In addition to fuel , we have seen prices inflate on parts recently from many suppliers ( all stuff-- not just cobra stuff )

so welcome to the year 2011.

What does that mean? Use small words, and write clearly, so that I might understand exactly what it is you're trying to say.

csx4910 11-19-2011 03:34 PM

translated - they arent making as much profit as they need

Possibly, but it would be nice if Steve would just spit out whatever it is he has to say on the matter instead of posting a cryptic "I know something you don't know" message.

Sorry, I'll digress, it's called making the potential customer have

"a sense of urgency".......

Marketing 101, get the customer anxious that he might miss out if he does not put a deposit down on a car NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Been going on in one form or another for over 100 years.......

Kinda reminds me of a late night infomercial - "BUT WAIT THERE MORE IF YOU ORDER IN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES YOU WONT LOSE OUT ON THIS FANTASTIC DEAL!!!"

Earlier in December, I attended a data center conference in Las Vegas.

Given proximity to Shelby facility near the Las Vegas International Speedway, took the opportunity to take the tour of the museum and shops. There were two CSX 6000 rollers available for sale located in the museum (tour guide who was very good, mentioned it a couple of times) and one of the 50 special CSX 8000 (there one day, gone the next). Cobra part of the shop had perhaps 5 cars under construction (two were aluminum and now finally understand there are two sources for these cars) the balance were fiberglass. Lots and lots of Mustangs.

Nothing was mentioned about cessation of orders (of course nobody asked) and prices mentioned for the rollers were around the $59k mark as I recall.

Just looked on the Kirkham website, their basic price has jumped to $69500, from (I think) $56500:(
There goes my chances of ever owning one!

They have an excellent product as do other manufacturers and can only wish them well in the new year.

B.M.B.C 12-31-2011 10:21 AM

Demand is high for Cobras, the prices of high performance classic cars have shot up Astons, Jaguars, Austin Healeys and such are rocketing.

aa909 12-31-2011 10:30 AM

Wow, just read through this thread. Given the details I gleaned this seems to be a simple matter of Supply & Demand playing out. (1) They must have more orders than they can handle (hence they are not taking any more orders) and (2) they must be anticipating continued higher demand going forward, hence the upcoming price increase

I know the economy isn't great, but these are boutique cars manufactured in relatively small numbers. As long as you have a global market you can find enough high end buyers for your product.
