Default Shelby American working with Ford on the GT-40?

To what aspect is Shelby American working with Ford on the GT-40? I saw the Cobras on display here in Phoenix this weekend and the Shelby American Rep mention a joint venture with Ford on the GT-40.

They all looked great by the way.

Shelby reps. have been known to strech he truth a little bit now and then. I doubt very much that Ford and Shelby are working together. Any comments?

I have read several articles, and none have mentioned Shelby. I am not sure why Shelby would help out, the only modern car they produce runs a GM motor. It doesn't seem like they would be of much use when they have other ties with the likes of Roush and Saleen.

Ford has been known to work very closly with Roush on MAN"Y projects- in fact roush "built" the motor for the GT40 concept cars.
Ford has Roush develope most of its prototypes too.
As to Saleen- why would Ford have involvement from a competitor?? lest we all forget that Saleen has the S7 to think very heavily about-
why would Ford have saleen build the car- or even help with it- as it undercuts the S7 in price and possible has better performance. that would not be a good I dea for Ford.

as to SAI with GM motors- well how bout this: IIRC Roush also did the developement work for SAI with their "Aurora" V8 as GM didnt give a hoot about SAI once they sold them the power train. wouldnt help them at all.

So no response from a Shelby Rep to expand on what the Shelby Rep was saying in Phoenix? Interesting? I was just looking to find out more information on the relationship of the two...........?

Not that this means anything, but I haven't heard this and there aren't any GT40's around here.

understand the the project was just given to ROAD SERPENT'S and they are testing a new power plant,
air cooled flat four which they hope to use in tandem to be installed in a fully armoured GT40 with offensive and defensive systems. I think..... I heard this from a Road Serpent representative this weekend (Saturday night at about 1:30AM) at Harrah's casino in Laughlin,,.... however he had consumed massive quantities of rakki so this information may not be assouletley correct///??? Expecting a press release shortly.

From some of the articals I have read...... Jack Roush, Steve Saleen and Carroll Shelby all had input on the GT-40, now known as just the Ford "GT". All three people have great knowledge in building super Cars and Ford knows it. If you were at the SAAC-28 Event in Nashville Tennessee like I was, you would have heard Carroll Shelby tell everyone at the Dinner that Shelby American and Ford will be working on future projects together ....... yes TOGETHER.

Default Ford GT40

Since I was working in the very building where the first GT prototypes were being assembled, I will enlighten the group on all who is involved with the project. Roush is doing the powertrain development on the GT. Saleen has been contracted to build the frame and body.( not sure exactly all the parts Saleen is doing, but they are building a new facility in the Detroit area to do the work). The Roush Building that I worked in also housed the Ford SVE team. That is John Colletti's group. They are in the building because Roush does most of the powertrain development for the SVT vehicles. They did the Cobra, Lightning, and the Maurader(Not SVT vehicle). Roush did not do the SVT Focus. I will say that it was not uncommon for Shelby to be in the building meeting with the SVE guys and giving input on the projects. The GT engine was developed before the car was thought up. The engine had been in a lightning for about a year before it was decided to be used for the GT. It was supposed to be the engine for the 05 Lightning. But the GT is being built several different companies. They chooose the different companies for their specialties. Saalen got their business because of the S7 and the ability to build the chasis and Roush got the powertrain for their proven abilities. So it is a win win situation for Ford. They get a care developed quickly and meet all their goals and keep the price down. But Shelby American Ido not believe is involved except for the part of Carrol Shelby advising.

Thumbs up

As long as we're speculating here I will add a little tid bit from a
reliable source who shall remain confidential.
It seems that the talk around the Ford water cooler is that There will be Shelby Mustangs introduced in 2005 with Shelby's blessing.
They will be intirely built by Ford but will have Shelby input and definate Shelby traites of yesteryear.....Ummmmmmm.
Wonder if it's true. Boy would that be nice to walk in a Ford
dealership and order a new Shelby Mustang 350.
Look out SAAC registry, here I come!!

rphubbard,
Thats pretty much the way I heard it putting together a bit here with a bit there from different sources. You kind of tied it all together. It's not like it's some kind of "secret", it just hasn't been written down in a logical order in one place.

The mystery remains as to WHAT C.S. and Ford are cooking up for future projects! Not a word on that from ANY source,,,,,,,yet!

Ernie

So Kris,,,,,,let us know when you get the "call" from the big guys in Detroit.

Hersh,

I agree! That's the rumor atleast I'm spreading. I would like to see a 2005 GT350. Let me know when you decide to buy one, as I'll be right behind you. We'll ask for the group discount!

You got it Bill!
The rumers are that Ford sees Shelby's name sake still has more market punch than anything else they can come up with. Ford is supposedly working a deal so they can get the marketing done with enouigh difference in the Shelby Mustangs to make them special.
I hate rumors but if this stuff I have been hearing is true then Ford will pull off one of the biggest ventures they ever started.
There's a reason the new Mustang favors the 67's.....

I can't wait to see them in their new Shelby livery if it happens...

Hersh

Entertainment Tonight (ET) had that Cobra from Charlies Angles II on the set. I guess that was the SPF (as Richard said the wrecked the JBL during the movie).

Anyway, point is: They referred to the car as THE "1967 Shelby Cobra" actually used in the movie. Facts not withstanding, the Shelby "name" packs a lot of punch,,,,,,STILL!

Hmmmm......

If this car is to be shown at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show.....then it sounds like its been in the works for over a year.

(1) 2005 Ford/Shelby GT350 ?
(2) 2005 Ford/Shelby Daytona Coupe ?
(3) 2005 Ford/Shelby Series II ?
(4) Something Completely New ?

Looks like we've got 4-months of waiting, and another year to save up for something that may actually catch our eye and future interest.
