And what promotions or advertising agency do you work for?

Sal,
I threw my sarcastic reply out for a couple of reasons. When I look into a thread title I am looking for something more than a promotion or commercial. I suppose Mr. Black has a right to post a thread to promote a radio show, but if he is going to advertise a specific product or company should he not be held to the same perimeters that other advertisers on this forum adhere to? That and every one of Mr. Blacks 11-17 posts are promotions plugging SAI or Barrett Jackson. For me this forum is one of the few formats left where I can choose whether or not I want to view an ad or read a car company's promotional work. Mr Blacks post is directly related to one specific car company and the promotion of their specific product and personnel. His topic is Cobra related and I'm sure many members will tune in, but when I look at the list of advertisers as well as the banner ads in here, it seems to me he is pushing the edge compared to those in here who are paying to have their names, companies, or their products promoted and advertised here. Yeah, I know I'm getting pissy but when the advertising world is coming from every medium, from every direction, every single day, sometimes I would rather have a choice about what I read rather than finding after the fact I clicked on some guys commercial, at least in here, IMHFO:rolleyes: |
Here here. I wish I could express myself as well.

When such a title appears on the "big board" you really can't tell what it is and thats why you open it, at least I do. It's actually a smart piece of marketing/posting on Mr. Blacks part, I'll bet he knows it too. I'm not trying to stir up a stink, just saying if its an Ad, I want to know ahead of time and not get suckered in, thats all.:JEKYLHYDE |

Thanks for posting that info Scott Black! I appreciate it, wouldn't have had a clue without it. :D

I see it as a advertisement for SAI, thats what it was posted for.
I'm not trying to single out SAI, just the fact that a promotion is being presented as a thread topic by a promotions agent. Many vendors/sponsors in here promote their different products. Participation in here by most of the company's is done so by their owners and information exchange is reasonably sincere. I have had some informative exchanges with Amy. If I can see a new piece of CNC'd billet suspension or a carbon fiber body, a new wiring harness design, great, and I'm all for it. However I have no interest in a piece of pre-written copy posted by a member who only shows up here for one reason and its not to talk about Cobras, its to promote an interest they are being paid to push. If it was Amy who had made the post I wouldn't have replied the way I did, but when a hired promotions specialist, who participates here only to push his product and contributes nothing otherwise, I find that to be very thin. That and the post title and the thread was nothing more than a 15 second promotions "spot". Just let me know before hand that this is a piece of advertising copy. I just found this one a little on the deceptive side, how come a recognized company rep didn't offer up the info in their own words the information on the radio show. Instead,a paid promotions person is posting a piece of approved ad copy. Maybe we can just agree to each of us seeing the ad from a different perspective Sal. The way the "copy" reads is obvious to me, and if its just me, thats okay too.;) |

I can see your side of it, for sure. I just think in this particular case, you're making it out as a bigger deal than it is. |
Actually I tend to agree with you Sal.
Thats why I fessed up early to being pissy and making sure responders were aware that I knew my response was sarcastic. I spent the first 30 years of my working life as a Cinematographer, shooting primarily television commercials, thus the cynicism. Two people read the exact same thing and come away with two entirely different opinions, sounds about right. Behave yourself, but not too much. Mark |

The rest was answering your questions directed at me Sal. |
Mark, you actually hit the nail on the head.
Mark,
Scott is in the Marketing/Public relations/Promotions business and has a direct connection with "Shelby" here in Texas. I believe Scott is just doing his job in keeping the Shelby name in front of as many people as he can in any way he can. I personally know Scott, having met him years ago when I first joined the Shelby Cobra Club of Texas in 2000, and I really think this is really only a case of just " a man doing his job to the best of his abilities in any way he can". One thing is certain, had I not seen the title thread this morning I would not have been aware or the talk show at all. If that is also the case for anyone else that has posted in this thread then Scott has been at least somewhat successful. Whether that actually translates into anyone here either calling in or even listening to the radio show is dubious at best. Thanks, John R. ps. Scott, if I have mis-cast your job description, please feel free to correct me as it has been a while since I have seen you! I hope the broadcast is a success. |
If he had written the message as if it had come from a real person, rather than as a bit of souless marketing media-speak, it would have slipped under the radar.
Now then - anybody wanna buy a book...? |
Gimme a break, the message is FINE and WELCOME and APPROPRIATE to Club Cobra! It IS a public service, posted in the correct forum and for the life of me I cannot figure out why the heck this 'Mole Hill' has become some kind of 'Mountain'!
I welcome Scott Black's informative posts keeping club members up to date on recent happenings. Of course there is a place to 'draw the line' when it becomes 'advertising'. THIS was not the place or the time. |
Enough.
The pimp was standing on the right street corner, but he wore his gold chains under his clothes. |
Trevor... Are you the pimp?!? :D

Amy Boylan's appearance on C&D Posting
Wow, I am surprised at the acrid comments. I certainly did not mean to insult or "sucker" anyone into a message they did not want to read.
Sure, I am in the PR business. But I have been a Shelby fan for many more years that I have been in this biz. I have an AC Mark IV and a '72 Pantera. I've personally known Carroll and many of the Shelby team for over a decade. Gary Patterson and I were close friends way before Shelby opened in Las Vegas. I've raced cars, shown them at cruise nights and skinned my knuckles many a time underneath one. Who can forget the first time they drove a Cobra? I'm a certified car nut. So no, I am not some pimp as one classless person put it. We found out at the last minute that Car & Driver radio wanted Amy to come on the show. I was asked to spread the word as quickly as possible. As this is the SAI section of the forum, I just pasted in the quick message. I didn't realize that the message had been entered with that headline until after it posted. Looking back, I should have edited the headline. I posted the message for one simple reason. Many of you have great stories to share and it was a way to let you talk directly to Amy. The goal was not to sell anything to anyone, as this was a free way to just talk to the president of Shelby Autos. Scott Black |
