CSX4000 New Stainless Sidepipes Source

Hello All,

Everybody that has ever been around my car when it running knows ---- It Is Loud.

I am looking to get a set of Stainless pipes with a significantly more muffler and changing them out.

Anybody know a source.

I think there is a place called "Stainless Steel Specialties" in Atlanta that makes custom Cobra side mufflers.

Here it is:

Stainless Specialties

You might like the "Turbo Tones" from Stainless Specialties. It's what I put on mine (ceramic coated though for me). "Our original 100%, 304 stainless steel chambered muffler, now in a more conservative sound. Available in 3.5" or 4" body diameters. Any inlet/outlet size." You can hear mine below -- I would describe the sound from my FE through those pipes as "agressively mellow." :D ... Here's the SS website: Stainless Steel exhaust components•

dibs on the old, loud pipes!

I may also have a set of O'Rourk's side pipes ceramic black. I opted for "louder" instead of "quieter" and my neighbors aren't liking it.

I've been in some Cobras that had pipes that I swear sounded like straight zoomies. OK for the track, but that can really take away from street enjoyment. On the other hand, I've also been around Cobras that made no sound (not FEs). I didn't like that one bit.:(

Hi Guys,

The Pipes have gotten louder over time and it is uncomfortable on the road for long cruises.

I would like to deal with somebody closer than Atlanta if I can, look at the picture of my car....I want to keep the shiny pipes.

Here is a Youtube video from Oct. 2006.

Tony, I am also seeking a more subdued sound. My car is at Hall Fabrication and Racing in Benicia. Stewart has found a solution to quieter pipes at this years SEMA. He's installing them on my car as we speak. Give him a call to see if may work for you.

Dave.

Tony,

Red Shark Engineering in LA has stainless sidepipes. They make their own mufflers that flow really well but are quiet. They were OEM at one point on Shelby 4000 series cars.

What is it?

I forgot the name of the vendor. The mufflers are slightly larger in diameter, I think 4.25". It has tapered cones in both ends pointing inwards. They were developed to quiet down indoor dirt trackers. They will look just like the pipes on my car now. They were tested on a dyno and only lost 12 hp relative to a short pipe with super traps.

Hi; We can make them loud, quiet or in between. That is your choise. But all of them are mild steel and the original look. That is our choise. Regards, Justin

What about the stainless pipes offerd by Kirkham? I think that they were designed to address db compliance requirements.

I'm busy researching stuff to make the same. I found some of these and then I'll weld a turn down on and re-polish.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your replies.

Kris, I talked to Kirk and he can do what I need, the issues surround how my car is set up compared to how they build the pipes today. My car is one of the very early kits that Shelby sold 7-8 years ago.

Dave, do you have contact info for the Hall in Benecia?

Joey as for the Dibs....I will have a set of chromed pipes available.

Patrick, Thank you for the info for the guys in Atlanta but, I think I have found options for suppliers closer to home.

Would the Kirkham pipes fit in my application.....I saw them on another thread and they do not look like the original but, look good.

TR,

Can you post some pics of you pipes (close ups) where they connect to the primaries? My pipes are different than the standard CSX pipes. When I picked up the Cobra in Vegas. Gary Patterson put them in my truck with the comment " Now smile, damit":D I think they may have even come from Red Shark. These are not quiet.
