Default Oil Spec

Chris

The engine arrived safe and sound. Looks great and that's a big understatement. I have one question; I have had great success using Mobil 1 in my small blocks, any reason to think differently about the 427? I imagine there are others that would like to know.

Thanks

Tom

Thanks, Tom.

I don't see any reason to think differently about our FE's. I would wait until the rings are seated of course, but I think Mobil 1 will be fine, long term. So far every customer I've asked about what they run for oil has given me a different answer.

Thanks,

Chris Weisberg

Chris: I am using the Union 20W/50 you folks recommended and plan on changing to synthetic oil when I get to 1,000 miles. I do have a couple of oil drips that appear to plague FEs, even the new aluminum ones, like mine. I was told that as I got more miles on the engine the leaks might stop, especially on the rear main. Well, I now have about 600 miles on it, with no changes. Is it going to get any worse with synthetic oil? Even though I don't think much of Exxon as a corporation, I am thinking seriously about using Mobile 1. Thanks for your help. Rich

Rich,

I think that would depend on the severity of the leak. Do you know where the leak originates from? Maybe it can be resolved and turned into a non-leaker even with synthetic oil.

Chris

P.S., your Exxon statement made me laugh
I feel the same way when I eat Nabisco (RJ Reynolds) products.

Welcome, from Carroll Shelby

Have you noticed that it's tough finding quality performance parts to build a reliable FE engine? I have and I decided to do something about it by introducing my own line of Shelby FE™ performance parts. I worked with my design staff to build the best, because my name is on them. My racing legacy with FE performance engines extends back to my race winning 427 Cobras and GT-40 Mk.IV racers that won LeMans. Three decades later, my newer Shelby FE™ parts utilize proven design refinement to create FE performance parts for the new millennium.

My catalog illustrates an overall selection of parts available, but we can supply complete engines or parts from oil pan to carburetor to build your own Shelby 427 FE™ aluminum or cast iron engine just the way you want it. Call and speak directly to our engine department with your tech questions and orders. You have my name on it.
