Guess it was up to the header manufacturer to do it that way. My headers (made by Kooks for Shelby) have the #5 pipe going over the shaft with a very nice straight shot towards the body.

Default Yeah, mine too!

Mine goes between the support and the shaft. Does not hit anything. No bending or denting. Just like the originals back in the 60's.

Default It all makes sense now!

Morgan, your # 5 pipe is beautiful. It clears the area between the steering shaft and the body support with room to spare. I now understand why Shelby has them made this way, because they do apparently fit most cars. I could NOT get the # 5 pipe to fit from the top down (let alone even trying to get the flange through that space). I guess, as I kind of surmised, it is yet another example of my car being "special". Oh well, I am close to being done - even if it di take all day today to get the headers and side pipes on and tightened on one side of the car.

Welcome, from Carroll Shelby

Have you noticed that it's tough finding quality performance parts to build a reliable FE engine? I have and I decided to do something about it by introducing my own line of Shelby FE™ performance parts. I worked with my design staff to build the best, because my name is on them. My racing legacy with FE performance engines extends back to my race winning 427 Cobras and GT-40 Mk.IV racers that won LeMans. Three decades later, my newer Shelby FE™ parts utilize proven design refinement to create FE performance parts for the new millennium.

My catalog illustrates an overall selection of parts available, but we can supply complete engines or parts from oil pan to carburetor to build your own Shelby 427 FE™ aluminum or cast iron engine just the way you want it. Call and speak directly to our engine department with your tech questions and orders. You have my name on it.
