Gurney for Pres. Cobra

I recently purchased a Dan Gurney for President bumper sticker which had been signed by him. I plan on framing the sticker, but I would like to find a nice PIC of the original car, preferably with the sticker showing.
Can anyone help with my search?
I have surfed all the Gurney websites I can find on the internet, and have come across a couple of photos. I am trying to find one of him posing next to the car, beside the sticker. Even one with the car at speed, as long as it shows the sticker.
I would appreciate any assisitance.

As soon as someone gets this picture posting problem figured out, I'll put one up. Until then, sorry....

computerworks 08-15-2002 05:39 PM

Bob...send me a sample of what you cannot post and I'll take a look at the problem. Attach it to an e-mail

Ron,
I cannot post pics from "My Documents\ My Pictures" such as: C:\My Documents\My Pictures\cheetah2.jpg when they are saved on my computer. Why is this?

I can post pics from "My Documents" however, and I can also post them directly from the camera disk. Why is the above neame a "Bad file Discriptor"?

OK, you 'puter guys got to figure this out. this morning I turn on the computer, punch up CC, first thing on the screen is Cal and Rem sitting in a blue car with one of them Enchaladas in the backround. those pics are in here sumplace.

You may be trying to post too large of an image. I believe there is a 40k byte limit on the file size for attachments. Check the size of the image and if it's more than this, use a photo editor and resample the image (reduce the size) until it is under 40k and try it again.

Im no expert, but I believe the "Gurney for President" stickers were only used once on a factory car. It was at the 12 Hours of Reims, 1964 on the Daytona Coupe Gurney was driving (#15 for that race). So far I've only seen one photo showing the stickers in Friedman's "Shelby American Archives" book. I too would love to see more pictures :)

re:President Gurney

I just wanted to say, "Thanks", for all the help everyone has given me so far. I am still looking for a photo which suits my needs, and hopefully, I will find it.
I am checking for the book, "Shelby American Archives", which Turbo II mentioned. Robert Evans...If you would like I can give my email address and you can send the file direct.
At any rate...Thanks once again everyone.

JT,
Here is the only pic that I have found so far with the sticker. Hope this helps somewhat....

Big Bob:

You are forgetting about the Quad Cab Dakota that had its rear window plastered with that sticker at Elkhart Lake.

Robert Evans 08-22-2002 06:44 PM

....and a golf cart too!!

jttoad 08-22-2002 07:27 PM

Wow, thanks for the PIC. It will do...for now. Hopefully computerworks will come across the one he has told me about, because it sounds perfect. Gurney posing next to the car in full color.
He is looking for it, and I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I will print this PIC and use it until a better, if any, comes along.
I have posted a wanted ad on ebay in the hopes it finds exactly what I am looking for.
Much thanks though, your PIC will be hanging behind glass in a matter of days.

Robert Evans 08-22-2002 08:42 PM

JT,
That shot is a really poor quality one taken with a digital camera out of a book (too lazy to scan it at the time).

I can scan the pic if you'd like. I have many shots of CSX2299 in my Daytona Coupe book, but it running without the sticker.

S.T. Bob
Thats quite alright, the PIC you sent will do for now. One of these days I will come across the perfect PIC. Computerworks might find the PIC he told me of, or an eBayer may contact me.
I am wanting a PIC with the sticker, so the "non-racing fans" can have a reference when looking at the framed set. Actually, I am surprised that Dan's Co. does not have a PIC.
I have found where to purchase the book previously mentioned by Turbo II, but having trouble convincing myself that one PIC is worth the $25 - $30 for the whole book.
Scanned images sent directly to me have to be small, because my PC is not unzipping large files. At any rate, thanks for the offer, and should you, or anyone else, come across a good color PIC of Dan beside his machine at the 12 hrs. at Reims...email me.
I will gladly pay postage fees to aquire it snail mail.
Thanks
JT

How'bout just a picture of him standing next to....well, anything near his shop? I'm going up to see Remington on Monday for lunch (also to pick a pie plate from a desert my wife made for him :) )and I can see if he might be photograph-able that day if he is there.

jttoad 08-23-2002 07:36 PM

Wow...sounds great! If only I could be so lucky. I have a friend who works at Aldo Andretti's machine shop near Indy. Thats about as close as I can come to a driver without trolling the pitlane.
Much Thanks

jttoad 08-23-2002 07:38 PM

or should I say...driver relative. He had his PIC taken at Indy when Mario was burned in the face. Any way, you get the idea.

JoeLafives 08-24-2002 01:09 AM

Here's a pic of Gurney next to his AAR Eagle (I'm in the background)
