New Shelby book but not by me

I expect quite a hefty coffee table book as that price is about $50 higher than the most expensive Cobra-related book I bought so far (Trevor Legate's Britiish edition of his book) More details as I get 'em. Wow the price is falling fast!
The publisher told me that they would be $149.50 but I guess once they get into the hands of retailers, all bets on holding the price are off.
Also this publisher is famous for offering special editions of his regular books so I would check on their website if you can get one of those, maybe more expansive binding, etc. I would think if you get it autographed by famous Shelby drivers/ mechanics, etc. it would be a real keeper. Does it contain historical photos of the same cars in their original racing career? If I see it at Monterey, I'll give a holler. There is a sort of circus midway at the Monterey Historics where books, posters, sculpture and model cars are sold and I hope to see it at a publisher's booth but maybe they will be at the Quail, too toney an event for me... |

bare aluminum and in finished form as well as the tattered interior shown--as enthusiasts of the marque we need a few unrestored Cobras (grunge cars?) on the scene like Lynn Park's yellow 289 to show people what original Cobras look like before they are all dolled up with $20,000 paint jobs. Pebble Beach is making more of their unrestored car section in the 2008 concours, so they too recognize that if every car is shown only in restored shape who will remember what they looked like originally? |

I don't consider them 'fashion' photos, just the product of a really good camera and a ***** great light source (plus a few reflector panels and about 25 years of practice). Great fun though and can keep a simple soul like me entertained for hours.
On the topic of originality, I note that a large number of Bugattis and other early classics that remained the property of the Schlumpf family, (not the ones from the museum) have been sold privately, but ONLY on the understanding that they will remain unrestored - just dusted and maintained in working order, but no big-money make-overs that frequently destroy the originality. Several are en route to the USA....wonder if and when they will surface at Pebble Beach? |
A real master. Art work deserving of a place on a wall, even if its a garage wall.
