Daytona coupe rear screen.

Anyone know which Daytona coupe manufacturers offered a glass rear screen rather than plexiglass? Am I right in thinking the screen aperture would be slightly different between different manufacturers and not transferable. Got a SV with plexiglass but would prefer glass. Presumably one off glass production is prohibitively expensive.

You could try Superformance. Their dealer in the US is Hillbank. Use the Irvine dealer/number (you can look them up). but ... While Hillbank/Superformance used to make the Daytona Coupes, they turned over the rights to Shelby American (the CSX9000 series) so you might need to contact Shelby American. Hillbank is a dealer for both Shelby and Superformance though.

I believe Factory Five has a glass hatch.

Alfa02 12-04-2021 08:34 PM

Yes, FFR has Glass Hatches

Daytona Dek 12-05-2021 01:13 AM

Thanks Guys. I guess the important question is how much similarity between different manufacturers is there?

Just found out FFR are importing into the U.K. so will contact them regarding the Daytona and rear screen.

The originals had plex... Most manufacturers are very different in opening and hatch cover shape. However.. the FFR Coupe actually started from the Shell Valley body shape. It was HEAVILY hack-n-jacked for the Gen 1, then refined for the Gen 2. I am not sure how much remains the same in the rear hatch area with the new Gen 3 shape with it's glass hatch, but you may have a chance!

Didn’t know that so thanks. Might be worth a visit to FFR when they’ve imported one to take some measurements.

Didn’t know that either. Apparently Le Mans Coupes Ltd in West Sussex on the south coasts. They will be worth approaching also.

Yes he does. I spoke to John at a car show a few months ago where he had his Daytona on display on his trade stand and commented on the excellent glass rear screen. He is going to give me the details of the manufacturer. I know nothing of glass manufacture and what is needed in terms of a mould or template. It would be nice if the Dax screen also fitted my SV but it’s a bit of a long shot. I’ll follow his lead up with fingers crossed! Also there’s the cost of a one off to consider. Be nice if all the manufacturers used the same Daytona mould but that’s not going to be the case so variation is inevitable I guess.

@Daytona Dek, I know for a fact Gen 1 FFR rear glass will NOT fit a Gen 3 (Newest version). A friend ordered a new glass (Again Gen 1) no way they are interchangeable, side edges will not line up. Hope this helps in any way, Cheers TommyRot.

Peter Brock makes a glass kit for SPF.

Following that link Tony I’m not sure it is glass:

Coupe rear window and installation adhesive at $1987 includes:
Medium gray aircraft grade poly-carbonate rear window. This is the highest grade available and has high quality optics. It's not the cheap imported poly-carbonate material with poor optics.

Not cheap either!

Thanks @TommyRot. This makes it even more difficult when the manufacturer make the rear screens different between later generations. Out of interest do you know what your friend paid for his glass screen?

I want to say $485 comes to mind, but don't quote me. I do know when ordering he asked for a Gen 1 glass, and either FFR doesn't make them anymore, or a mistaken order and sent a Gen 3. So you may want to check with them before ordering. The Gen 3 glass is less of a rear side angle (Flater glass) then a Gen 1. I can ask him for a price, if it will fit your Shell Valley. Good Luck Dek.

@Alpha02 thanks. I think I’ll explore the manufacturer of the Dax Daytona glass here in the U.K. first and keep everything crossed it’s not a pants down and spanking job. With a bit of luck they can use my plexiglass one as a template and get a perfect fit at a reasonable cost. If not it’s good to know I can consider an alternative manufacturer’s.

I once inquired for another car to get a template and glass made. The connection went from the UK to manufacturing in Finland. I send you the mailadress via PM.

Company is nsg.com

They have a huge inventory of templates. While they didn't have the one I needed, they surprised me.
