Default wide view mirror

Looking for some current sources and reccamendations for a wide view or panoramic rearview mirror for use on a Cobra replica. Convex or just a larger mirror ? Last weekend was another example of another short commings realized. I was trying to keep track of cars behind me OK, but not to either side. While being a good boy cars would come up from nowhere. My first clue was there tire noise. I remember some examples and such a long time ago. I'm sure some things have changed over time. The side view mirrors are not realy effective. I should have bought one of those mirrors then.

This convex mirror clips right on the existing rearview and works very well. The back is black and it blends in with the car...doesn't look like the cheap/large ones you get at a large auto parts place. You might also want to replace the existing mirror in your side mirror(s) with a convex type mirror.

Mike, I bought a water skiing mirror from Bart's. It clips onto the windshield with a plastic bracket and can be removed at anytime. Chas

Any thoughts about wide flat as opposed to wide convex mirrors. I was intending it for center rear view.

The convex will give you excellent peripheral vision. My convex side mirror is just ok...I don't rely on it that much.

I have the Raydot bullets mounted on the windshield frame uprights and a clamp on marine mirror from West Marine. The clamp on is not too terribly obtrusive and I can get a good view pretty much all around.

After reading this thread (and having a visibility issue) I surfed Bart's website. I found a Cipa mirror that met my fancy and found it on FleaBay for 42 bucks.. As the song goes, "I can see clearly now..."

Go to Pep Boys and get a couple fo "nanny" mirrors. They attach to the windshield via suction wherever you want them and they give good rear views. For 3 or 4 bucks you can't go wrong.

How did you plan on mounting this mirror? Over the original or hang it from the top center of the wind sheild frame?

I got a convex and wider than stock mirror from Broadway - it clipped on over my stock SPF mirror . It is metal but very high quality viewing and captures two lanes either side of me .........see : http://passwordjdm.com/Broadway-Mirror-C519.aspx

Best $20 I ever spent . Bill

Thanks.

It rotates 180 degrees so the mirror will point down too.

I took my first drive with it yesterday and absolutely hate it. It's just too large and windshield vibrations buzzing through it drives me nutz.. I guess it's off to fleabay with a deep discount .. Oh well, it was worth a try.

The 240mm works great! Also available on eBay per my post above.

Here are a couple of pics of the mirror:

The top clips are fixed and the bottom clips have a spring. The clips are plastic with some small ridges to keep the mirror in place.

Front view. Unfortunately, they put the name of mirror in the corner. It seems to show more in the picture than in normal use.

You can get a similar mirror at Kragen, but the corners are round and it's about 1.5" wider. Any wider than the 240mm, and I think you start to block your forward visibility.

I used my little mirror today to see detail. I had an unmarked suv appear from nowhere. I pushed a little to get some distance and when slowing in a speed reduced section I noticed he was getting closer and my radar detector was pinging. as he got closer, I noticed the lights in his grill were blue and red. I still want a wide view mirror but do not want to cover my original mirror.. I want a seperate mirror, something to mount higher , like just under the top of the windsheild frame
