who makes non traditional hoodscoops?
Who makes an nontraditional hoodscoop (for a replica Cobra)? I've seen a picture of a Kirkum with a cowl induction scoop. I could see how that might work better. I have a Dove tunnel wedge dual four intake. It putts the carbs up against the hood. I have to use trimmed down S&H aircleaners. What I'd like to do is bring an oval aircleaner up through the hoodline. I want a scoop that would provide coverage for that aircleaner, Also, Water comming in from the front and falling on the distributer would be a problem. A rear openimg as cowl scoop would take care of that. A cowl scoop also wouldn't introduce too much air under the hood. My hood is about 45 inches long, it has about 23 inches of straight edge at front and about 22 inches between the rear hood latch handles. What I picture is smooth rounded lines and no ridge down the middle, matbe about 3 inches hiigher. The rear could have notches at rear to clear hood latch handles.

I have an aluminum hood scoop that I did not use on my EM. I ended up using the one from Kirkam. Let me know if you are interested. |
I was considering the super snake hood & scoop- but was advised about getting too much air under hood causeing front to lift, and the scoop that I have now is almost like the other, it will not cover a dual four oval air cleaner . Remember that the distributer is just in front of the air cleaner on an FE.

I am looking for hood too. The cowl hood has many advantages. Hope to see some replies.

I'm not sure a larger scoop would have much impact on the air under the hood. There's so much air being forced into that gaping hole at the front that you'd be hard pressed to aggravate it. I've seen reports that indicate air actually comes out of the hood scoop at triple digit speeds with no turkey pan in place.

FYI,
The hood scoop above is for Webers that is much widewr than the EM scoop. I dont have any problems with the dist with mine on the FE 427. My hood covers the dist. You may want to recheck your measurements regards what scoop you go with. I actually trimmed more off the hood to make room for the webers on my motor. I have a EM car too. |

Dual four oval element alone is 22"L x 10" W. That would make the top about 23" x 11". The hood is 45" long and I have 22" wide between the hood latch handles. What I picture a cowl scoop with Smooth Rounded lines and no ridge down the center. And I'd plan to use a carb pan with a foam ring to seal off hood . Cobra hood has compound curves side to side and front to back. Blending to hood surface much like the super Snake scoop blends to the hood on the sides. A scoop that looks like it was planed rather than an obvious after thought.

turn a Supersnake scoop around, put the opening to the windshield, extend the top past the edge of the original hood opening to within a coupla inches of the windshield. I'll see if I have a loose SS scoop laying around and demonstrate what I mean. search around for sum pichers of Morris's car , I think he has a scoop like your lookin' for. ( I always liked the L88 hood too , but looks to Chevy for on a Cobra, unless you're runnin' a Rat motor )

That is sort of what I'd like to find. It looks great, I bet it works fine. Looks like it belongs there, not an after thought. Maybe a little larger and more rounded features. Problem is the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Just as Barnsnake said, my experience is that air comes out of the scoop.
I was gunning it in my SPF and it backfired at about 50 mph. Smoke came out of the scoop. That would tell me that the side vents and hood scoop struggle a bit in letting all the incoming air from the mouth, out of the engine compartment. At least in a SPF engine compartment with a SB. rodneym |
