Clearer Eyeballs?
OK, Now that I've got my earplugs in can anyone give me advice on keeping my eyeballs from blurring out? I find that, even with sunglasses, after driving at highway speed things tend to get a bit blurry. Maybe it's the wind drying out my eyeballs or what?

I get the same thing.... my eyes also start burning though. I think some wrap aroung sunglasses may do the trick but I haven't tried that yet. (what about night driving?) At first I thought I must be running way rich and that was causing the problem, but that isn't the case. It is a drag though and hopefully someone can come up with an answer. Maybe try running without the wind wings? Pat :cool: |

I experienced the same "burning" that you had when I was visiting in California...only I was in a rental car! I was told it was the SMOG! maybe you are running too rich? t |
It isn't too rich - I have it leaned as much as I dare.
It's getting almost 12 mpg! I am running an O2 sensor and the pipes look good. I suspect it may just be a combination of air flow and exhaust fumes - other people must have the same problem? |

Roscoe, I used Ray ban Predator 8's for Harley riding 75 -80 mph no wind in eyes, very comfortable, after 500 mile rides eyes feel great, can't say the same for a$$ though!!!:3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

Wind wings & Sun Visors
All of us are different heights and sit differently in the cars. Those who are over approx 6' would do well to utilize both the sunvisors & side wind deflectors, and wear a baseball cap (tight).
Im about 6'1", the combination of the bill on the ball cap and the sun visors helps move the air over the top of my head. Although once you drive these cars above about 80 mph the air will attempt to fill the void created as the car moves through the air and severe buffeting ensues. At twice the national limit if the wind doesn't beat you to death the noise will deafen you. Sort of like riding a 500cc Grand Prix Bike in your birthday suit!:LOL: :LOL: :LOL: Rick |

Wearing a baseball hat definitely helps, because otherwise the sun reaches over the top of your sun glasses' rims into your eyes.
Smog maybe a point! The windwings don't help too much. Instead I prefer to rest my arm on the door to save me from wind hitting my head. :MECOOL: Not recommended at higher speeds, though! I thought about side curtains for a while for longer trips. Dominik |
I had the same problem when riding my Bourget. I purchased two pairs of the Panoptix (shown above) one pair for daytime riding and also a clear pair for night riding and have not had a problem since. Although I did find that while sitting still they do not breath very well. In regards to price, yes they are kind of $$$ although my local HD dealer cut me a break on 2 pairs.
BTW, took my 1st ride in a SPF last weekend and now I can't wait to get to SPF in Ross, Ohio!!! |
I happen to stop at a local motorcycle shop on Sat and picked up a pair of Wileyx http://www.wiley-x.com/eyewear/sg1.htm glasses. They totally solved the problem of blurry eye.

Goggle alternative
Harley Davidson also makes a goggle similar to the WylieX with foam interface rather than the plastic and with interchangable lenses. Picked them up for the run to VIR and will let y'all know how they work out.

The Wileyx glasses have foam around the eyepieces also. What I like is that the lenses are alos interchangable and come with clear and tinted lenses. Sounds like the HD's are very similar. I like mine alot and wear them often, especially on the highway. Roscoe |

I have the panoptx. They have foam that fits to your face which is surprisingly comfortable. The website should direct you to dealers. Most of the Harley-Davidson dealerships sell them. They had to order the exact ones I wanted and got in about 5 days.

I think i have two problems on long trips in my car. For "dry eyes" i use the inexpensive bubble goggles from Simpson racing, so much more comfortable, i have both clear and smoked. Don't fog, cost about $10, when they get too scratched, i get another set. These are precisely what Dale Earnhardt wore to race, by the way. For shorter trips at ngiht, i have a pair of clear Gargoyes.
But i think part of my eye burning is actually too much sun on my retinas, as the goggles are not quite dark enough for my very sun sensitive eyes. So if i am driving towards the sun, i have to use sunglasses, wrap around Gargoyes. I can't find a hat that will stay on "at speed", but i just bought a Tilley, with a strap system, so i am going to try that now. Anyway, for me, it seems to be both dry eyes and sun-irritated retinas.. I keep some prescription allergy Patanol eye drops in my car. On long trips, i also use foam ear plugs. Always amazes me how loud the car is when i take them out after awhile!! |
My ClubCobra hat stays on pretty good and I've added my 'Roadster Clip' so I don't lose it.
