Default Leather cleaner/protectant

Can anyone recommend a good leather protectant? I'm especially looking for something that has excellent UV blocking properties. The sun gets pretty intense here in Vegas.

You may wish to check out Zymöl leather care products …

http://www.zymol.com/leather.htm

Zymöl ‘Treat’ is excellent … I’ve been using this stuff for a while and my black leather interior still looks brand new.

Also, Spinneybeck and Connolly offer some great leather care products. Try to avoid Lexol or leather care products from Nappa … your leather will become sticky over time (in my experience)

For the leather interior in my vehicles, I use good old fashioned saddle soap. It does a good job but it's gentle at the same time. It moisturizes the leather and when it's dry (which doesn't take too long), I just give it a quick buffing with a dry cloth to bring up the sheen. Works great and you can't beat the cost.

Lexol and Zaino leather care are very good products. I have this Lexol spray conditioner in a bottle that just plain does not smell good, and I no longer use it. However, I got a sample of Lexol conditioner in a packet at SEMA last year that wipes on and is a little on the creamy side. Works AND smells better, as well as making your leather look and feel brand new. I've tried at least 6 different leather care products over the years on my cars and have found Griots Leather Care the greasiest but the best smelling...a lot like leather should smell. Zaino smells the same but works a lot better than Griots...not slimey.

In the March issue of AUTO RESTORER a comparison/evaluation of leather care products was published. The Leather Apparel Association was consulted and the comparison objective was based on keeping leather in top form. Since leather is a skin it has many of the same care properties as our own skin. To keep your leather from being damaged by the sun you should keep it covered as much as possible. That being said, the product recommended by the publication was TENDERLY LEATHER SOFTNER(www.urad.com) (800/364-2744. The "best Buy" was LEXOL conditioner/preservative.((www.arcticwolfleather.com)(800/913-2345) The comparison involved 22 different brands of leather cleaners, conditioners, waxs, sealers, restorers etc. Hope this helps and "no" I don't own stock in either company

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. Lots of good info. I'm in the upholstery (among other things) cleaning business but we never deal with automotive upholstery and the harsh environment that goes with it. I appreciate your input.
