Default Single Post Lifts

Does anyone here have a single post lift?

This is the style that I am interested in, do to a used two car garage. I am looking at it for storage, not so much work.
Mainly this one do to the wider base plate
Gemini Auto Lifts: SP-4 & SP-7 Single Post Auto Lifts
possibly this one, or one similar

Four post lift is safer, easier, more practical, and 40% cheaper and available in sizes that fit.

Default Why

I would ask why also. It is cool but that post is in the way of the door.
I have a Challanger 4 post.

unless your situation is extremely specialized wouldn't a four post give you more flexibility and options?

I have a single post lift. It is out of the way and more convenient than a 2 or 4 post. Although it seems like a 2 or 4 post is safer.

Every time that I open the garage door, I wonder if the post will be tipped over with my car on top and with the post laying on the truck! Lol

As long as your foundation is fairly new/strong it should be fine
The one I have will lift the Cobra fine, it will lift the NASCAR as well, but anything heavier won't go up more than a foot

I have some pictures of it in my gallery with a cobra on it

Someone was telling me that the normal 4" of concrete wouldn't work anchoring a single post lift. That you need at least 6".

My garage is 6". Gthompson, who makes your lift?

I have a two car garage door and with the wife parking her SUV in the garage, I would rather take the chance of the single post falling than the 4 post or two post getting hit. The single post would be on the passenger side and practically take up no room in the garage at all which is nice. If I had two single doors I would be more inclined to do the 4 post.

I have a 2 post hoist. But putting the arms under the car every time I store it would be a pain. I'm looking at adapting some ramps to it. It looks scary with only one post, but I guess it looks solid enough. My brother in law had a hoist drop from the highest position. The safety catch jumped the detents as it fell. I now always lower the car onto the safety catches. Lucky he wasn't under the car at the time.

Default Benefit of 4 post

I have a Challenger home 4 post. It has been good so far.
I added to it a rolling scissors jack. Very handy you can lift the wheels off the ramps to work on it.

It is depicted on this page.
Home Car Lift Accessories - Challenger Lifts

I could not imagine owning this car without a lift. Unfortunately I have had lots of reasons to be under the car so far.

Thanks for posting the picture so quick. I have seen a lot of those lifts and haven't heard of any failures yet. HOWEVER, I am trying to stay away from models that look like that. I want one of the versions that has the base plate that is about 6 to 7 feet wide.

That's what I'm saying! Lol

It does work well and it really is solid
I have never heard of a failure with the single post lifts

I have a 4 post lift at a Eagle Canyon Racetrack that works well. When the 4 post lift is on the ground, you can move each of the posts back and forth 3"-4", but when the lift is up, it seems pretty solid
You can put wheels on each post to move it around when you want to

Looking at that it might let me get another fun car in the garage without too much maneuvering for the wife.
