Who has a decent price and availability for stock Jag inboard brake calipers?

I looked at the Rock Auto / Centric rebuilds but didn't know about the quality.

There are a few different styles. Do you know which version/year you have? They are pretty easy to rebuild and the parts are easy to find.

Centric seems to be common; here are some illustrations and items for different years:

Here's an upgrade similar to the one I use (there are others if you use internet search):

Here is an expensive place to get them; are they really better? I don't know:

After you have seen what's out there, maybe then you can decide which way to jump. As joy said, the parts are out there too. Rebuilding your own is also an option - if your car uses the Jag handbrake it can get, um, interesting.

I guess I'm going to have to positively identify the calipers I have. The calipers I do have are rust pitted in the bores so a rebuild isn't going to happen. This is a new build that I'm starting back up again so the rears have never been installed. It has NIB rotors, not vented, so my decision is whether or not I want to use the stock stuff for now and upgrade later or to even upgrade at all. Bigger is better but I'd probably upgrade the fronts first. I'll go through all the links and try and figure out exactly what I have. Something tells me that it may have been a XJ rear end.

John you need to remember the stock brakes that we use on our Cobras were designed for car weight a 1000 lbs more.

If you are not racing, stock brakes work great on our Cobras.

That's what I was thinking,,,,, It's being built as a daily driver. A hot rod , ass kicking toy, but still not a race car.

Although I agree about weight, the other thing to consider is where the brakes are buried. In most Cobra's, they are really tucked up in the body limiting airflow to cool the brakes. Maybe it won't matter depending on how you drive.

I wonder if anyone has experimented with mounting a wide, shallow scoop under the transmission tunnel at the rear to direct air up to the in-board brakes? It would have to hang a couple inches below the rear, frame cross member but that shouldn't be a problem on the track.

Been there, done that. This was mounted in a track car about 20 years ago.

Ok - wasn't quite as crazy an idea as I suspected. Were there any perceivable benefits to the scoop Bob?

My recollection is weak, but I believe it cured his rear brake fade on the track. This was a long time ago, with Chassis 050.

I have had the jag series one front and rear suspension in my car since 1989....I had overhauled everything when I put it together ....Every seal bearing bushing or ball joint. Some tracktime ....in the past ...but otherwise no problems with whatsoever..

I'm still having trouble determining what calipers they are. Is there a decent reference anywhere with pix? I cleaned up the old calipers ( 1 ) and the bores are OK but the pistons are shot. I may get out of this fairly well once I figure out the original application. Kits and pistons are available everywhere.

OK!! Found them from Toms link to Partsgeek. Thanks. They are from '74 XJ or XKE. Of course the pistons are out of stock,,,,,,,

Just curious, do the rear calipers for your car have that external parking brake? How many pistons per caliper?

Parking brake lives in another part of the rear and the calipers have one piston per side for 2 each caliper.

I have the same style on my car. I bought them off some seller on ebay. They were new and I think I paid $50 for the pair?
