Car Transporter suggestions?
Anyone have a personal relationship or know of a (very) reputable transporter who could move a Shelby from Sacramento CA to Maryland just outside of Washington D.C? Must be professional enclosed door-to-door service.
I've called a few, and they all suggest it will take ~4 weeks for delivery. Would love to have it the week after Xmas.
thanks in advance for your help

Hemmings Motor News, front of book, in 'services' section , lists many enclosed transporters. Horseless Carriage, and Reliable are just two that quckly come to mind. I passed my copy of HMN on so can't review any others or pass on phone numbers. A neighbor uses Reliable to transport his 53 Vette and 65 Mustang to Fla from Detroit every fall and back again in the spring and has never had a problem. He pays maybe $75 or so extra for door to door pickup vs a 'storage location' pickup and drop off point. Reliable has hauled one of my show cars with no problems and has been used by Ford Motor co to haul show cars etc to and from events. I would not use anyone that you can't get a personal reference from, ie, someone that has used them and check your insurance to be sure it is covered during transport, vs using their insurance only. They might not all be able to get you the exact delivery dates you want as they are big rigs that they ideally try to group loads so it is not one 40 foot trailer and only one car inside. The types of cars the major carriers many times handle far exceed the value of our cars yet you will/should get the same degree of professional care as they give a $2 mil exotic or brass vintage car. Good Luck. I am sure there are some horror stories out there, but of those I have talked to who have had cars shipped, the good experiences were numerous with the major carriers . Bill.

John:
I used Horseless Carriage Carriers to move a car from Wisconsin to N Va earlier this year. They asked for a 2-week lead time to schedule the pick up, and as I recall delivered the car within a couple days after pick up. I was very satisfied. Their number is 800-631-1776.

more transporters
Thanks Bill and Silk,
I've already contacted the carriers you mentioned and they've suggested a 30 day delivery time. I was hopeful to find a carrier loading up in CA now who would have room for an extra car caoming east.
again, thanks

I used Intercity Lines to transport my Cobra. They kept their commitment on pick-up and delivery. Arranged to divert a truck and add mine to their trailer. They have ( had ) two levels of service, ASAP and when they are in the area with other vehicles. I would definitely use them again. Their web site allows for a quote to be returned by e-mail in 24 hours , M to F

New Suggestions
I just wanted to take a quick moment to revive this thread. I am also searching for some quotes from some reliable auto transporters, and have recently heard some horror stories about a couple of "the big guys".....like they "lost" a car for several months...ugh.
What enclosed carrier have some of you guys used that you really trust?
Thanks,
Russ

Intercity moved Jenny's car for DVSF-III. DV was happy with both the support and the service!

Intercity
I used Intercity to move my SPF from Mich to Calif. They were mid line in the price quotes and mid line in delivery times. It was about ten days from when I booked the trip to when the car was picked up and four more to move it. The car was covered with a cotton cover and a plastic sheet on top (protection from drips from cars above) and the driver wore white cotton gloves when dealing with the car. Once the car was on the truck the driver called me with an estimated delivery date, then again confirming at two days out with an approximate time. The driver was actually early with my car. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Kirkhams use Intercity extensively and have been happy. I used them when I moved my household of Toys and was very happy 2 years ago. This latest go around (Hauling my Kirkham from Utah to Atlanta) Intercity would not commit on pickup and delivery timeframe. Passport did both. Horeseless was out of the ballpark on price. Went with Passport, plus they were $50 cheaper. In the end Passport had my car for 17 days and delivered after I BLEW my lid and escalated to CEO. Was 7 days more than the worst case estimate of 10 days they gave me. Just the facts of my own little microcosm of the hundreds of deliveries these companies do everyday. Get it in writing, which is something Intercity I remember went out of their way to insist upon.

I have used Horseless Carriage three times to move my ERA. They did an outstanding job each time and the price was actually less than the moving company would have charged. They move the cars in enclosed trailers, fitting four to six cars in the trailer, depending on the size of the cars. The last time they moved it, from Pennsylvania to Arizona, the other cars in the trailer were a Rolls Royce, a Ferrari and an early model XKE. They pick up and deliver door-to-door. Call them at 800-631-7796.
