Default T=56

Hello Guys!......New guy here.

I have a SPF on the way. #1422. I plan on installing the Ford Motorsport 392 crate engine. Everyone seems to be installing the T-3550 trany with the 5th gear .68. I like the idea of a tall overdive gear for driving the interstate, But I would also like a in between gear. My question. How much of a hassle is it to install a T-56? (outside of the price difference). I am having the installation done by a pro.

I've been surfing this forum for about 6 months. And I know there's a lot of you GearHeads out there that can help me.

Thanks....Lew

Really not necessary. Very heavy and big, stay with the 5 speed. You can do a search on this topic, has been discussed many times.

Welcome to the forum.

We use the T-56, nice to run a taller gear if you so desire, (3.73's, but we finally setteled on 3.55's), honestly...just don't see enough advantage over the T-5 to go to the extra expense.

Fifth gear is just a freeway cruising gear anyhow, no reason to have a sixth gear. The t56 is big and heavy and expensive and doesn't shift all that great anyhow. With 3.73's you can do over 120 mph in fourth gear, so you will rarely grab fifth under full throttle at the end of fourth.

Richmond Gear makes a six speed that looks very nice. It has close ratio setup in the lower four gears, fifth is straight through and sixth is the overdrive. It's made for a Chevy engine but I'm sure it could be persuaded to fit.
