 Waterless Coolant? Does anyone use "waterless coolant?"  I am having a little trouble keeping my temperature below 200.  The problem comes up mostly in stop and go traffic, or while waiting to make a run at the drag strip.  I had heard that waterless coolants can dicipate heat more efficiently. I have already tried a high flow coolant pump, thick aluminum radiator, water wetter, bigger fan... I am looking for experiences with this stuff, good or bad, and which brand do you use, where do you buy it... Thanks, |

 When you added Water Wetter, did you change the ratio of water/glycol? |

 I am sold on Water Wetter, made by RedLine oils. I buy mine at Pep Boys, and it has kept my cars running cool even here in Texas. |

 Flipper, I used a little less standard antifreeze. One of the things that I need to keep is the antifreeze qualities. The car will be stored in an unheated garage through the winter, but I still want to be able to drive it on nice days. I have heard of coolant that you do not add water to at all. This coolant has the cold weather ability that I need, but will not boil until 200+ degrees. |

 With a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and a 15 psi pressure cap, you won't get boil-over until about 235 F.  If your winter temperature doesn't get below 0 F, you should be able to get by with about 35% anti-freeze and still have a boiling point of 230 F.  Water is a better heat transfer agent than antifreeze or an antifreeze mix, and much better than those "waterless" agents.  With the latter, your engine will probably run at 220 F instead of your current 200.  If you're peaking at less than 230 F, I would just add the water wetter and not worry.  :cool: |

 Are you referring to Evan's NPG+ coolant?  It's a propylene glycol based fluid that you don't mix with water.  As opposed to the ethylene glycol that we mix with water.  I have heard good reports from secondhand sources but never used the stuff myself.  Heard that truck fleets use it mostly.  Try it and let us know. I have had good luck with: water + water wetter + little bit of antifreeze, myself however. |

 Snake oil? In my experience Water Wetter is junk.  When I lived in Texas I had a 95 Mustang GT that ran a little hot.  I had an Autometer mechanical temp gauge in the car and was running a 180 degree thermostat. (low mileage car with the only mod being a very mild set of underdrive pulleys) The car ran between  200- 210 degrees before WW. After adding WW there wasn't any difference. They claim a 20 degree drop from using the product.  never saw it. JB |

 Water Wetter doesn't make as much of a difference until you get about 25% anti-freeze or less.  I run about 10% glycol and about 20-25 degrees cooler.  It doesn't get to freezing temps here, but I was to lazy to drain the whole system to run 100% distilled water and WW. |

 Brent, That's an interesting point. I never went under 50/50 with my mixture. One thing I would be worried about with straight water is corrosion and rust. It is my understanding that ethylene glycol is not only used to prevent freezing but there are also anti corrosion addatives in antifreeze as well. John |

 I have 4 gallons of the Evans NPG+ -never opened....For sale. Bought it for a truck I never owned long enough to use the stuff. Give me 50% of what ever Evans list the price at on their web site and pay UPS and it is yours in the same boxes they sent it to me in.  Just spent last week at Hot August Nights .  Cruised around Reno in 97 Deg. heat, engine never went above 200.   Before using WW  engine would have run 210 to 215.  Made a big difference.  I use on a 6 gal. system  1.5 bottle of Red line and .5 gal long live antifreeze.   Read the info the Redline has on their web site.   It explains a WW real well.   Give it a shoot , it's not that expensive  to give it a test. |

 I can and HAVE proved Water Wetter works. Controlled conditions. On a test stand.! Same outside temperatures, same air flow same garage same engine, same fuel same oil. 1-Ran the engine with 50% water 50% antifreeze 2-Ran the engine with 75% water 25% antifreeze 3-Ran the engine with above combinations with 2 bottles of Water Wetter. 4-Ran it with water and Water Wetter only. Exactly as spelled out in the back of the bottle. 20 plus degree temperature variation. I was then told my engine was breaking in, of course it would create less friction and thus run cooler. Drained the coolant again and added water and antifreeze. 50-50-. Watched the temperature climb back 20 degrees and drained it again. Filled it with distilled water and 2 bottles of Water Wetter ,,,,down 20 degrees. How much more of a testimonial do we need. I am not a retailer or a distributor for the stuff, just passing on all the experimentation I did to satisfy my own scepticsm. Mojave-Death Valley-Hot August Night (100 temperatures outside, 2-3 miles an hourr crawling in traffic for 30 minutes at a time), 6 Dyno pulls. Either the temperature gauge is broken or the stuff works. Hardly "junk".! TURK |

 OK Then... Turk, I was only relating my experience.  I sure wanted the stuff to work but it did not for me.   Are you telling me that you noticed a 20 degree drop when you used Water Wetter will all 4 of your combinations? Maybe my problem was the fact that I was running 50/50.  Never saw any directions on the bottle that said to do anything other than pour it in the radiator. My experience was about 5 years ago. Maybe something has changed since then. I am a glad you have had good luck with it and maybe I'll give it a second chance next summer when I get my car. Take 'er easy, JB |

 re waterless coolant Turk, Which did you get the best cooling with when you did your tests ? I am running about 50% antifreeze and I haven't noticed any drop after I added the water wetter. I don't need more than about 10% antifreeze up here and if dropping that ratio will help I will do so. Thanks, Ron61 Ron Widener:confused: :confused: |

 I got the best result when  I used(reluctantly)  water and Water Wetter only. I too felt I should add some antifreeze because I thought I needed to to provide some lubricating to the water. I guess I was wrong. The Water Wetter indeed provies that too. I am not kidding you guys, There were no instructions other than the back of the bottle shows what to expect with different combinations. I believe the best results are advertised to be water and WW only. Bannon, I am NOT telling you I got those results with all the combinations. Recordable 20 degree drop was achieved onlyu with water and WW. TURK |

 Turk old friend- I have tried Water Wetter in many different types of cars including 125 and 250 shifter Karts and have noticed NO difference in temps from not using it. I can only tell you what I have found - trust me I WANTED to believe that it works. Perhaps the reason that it SEEMS to work when a comparison is made as you did is this: 100% water is a way better coolant than a water and anti freeze mixture. Adding anti freeze to the mix only delays the point at which it will freeze solid or boil. In my car, which is in a higher state of tune than yours - higher compression mainly - runs as cool or cooler than yours. I use distilled water, a waterpump lubricant, and about 10% anti freeze. Perhaps we both believe what we believe just as fervently - maybe we are BOTH wrong! Pat:) |

 YOU'RE wrong! We BOTH can't be wrong. Maybe only one of us is! TURK I too tried straight water, Then I tried water with WW. Did you? Did you run the similar test on the stationary test stand, or in actual driving conditions on the street or on the track? There is a possiblity the street and track did NOT provide the predictable conditions. Warmer days, less traffic etc. Whereas the test stand did. |

Let's see...my car runs as cool as yours and I am running the mixture I described in my previous post, so if I add some Water Wetter the temps should drop 20 degrees? Perhaps we can do a little wager....next weekend at the Beale Bash I will bet $50 bucks that if I add some WW to my system the coolant temperature temperature will NOT drop 20 degrees F. Bet?:) |

 Like my formula one can water pump lub ant-corrosive 2 tbl. spoons water soften fill with tap water. After fun fill summer drain & fill w/50% antifreeze for Snow Bird flite:MECOOL: Ken |
