Carb question- Choke?

Question (dumb and simple) for those using a big Holley in a cold-air pan:

How do you handle a choke?

Mechanical? Standard?
...or have you removed the Choke Assembly and don't use it?

custom holley 780 fully enclosed in 'something like' a 'cold air pan', ie, inside a fully enclosed paxton supercharger carb bonnet fighting for air on start up . NO CHOKE in tundra michigan, weather similar to yours. I just play with the throttle with continual gas pedal blips as needed until it warms up enough to idle as it should ( takes a couple of minutes) , as it starts to die i blip it to keep it running. i have talked to several bb folks with big domiinator carbs and many of them do the same having disconnected their choke. bill. .

I never run chokes on holleys. You can wire it open with a piece of coathanger, or just remove all the applicable pieces, or go all the way and remove the pieces and mill off the horn. Really cold temps rrequire a touch more skill to keep it running while cold, but it must be freezing for that.

Remove all the choke related parts, they're not needed.
I've never had a problem with the dual 1850's even when it's cold. You just have to feather the throtle for a mile or so and then it's fine. It'll warm up quick enough.

Ron - I am not running a Holley, I have an edelbrock carb, but I too have stripped off the choke mechanism, and milling down the air horn is on the list for this winter.

Car can be a little reluctant to start, but nothing a few pumps of the throttle doesn't cure.

Funnily enough, it always starts real easy when its very very cold, it's autumn, like now, when I struggle to keep the balance between it not firing up or flooding it initially.

Once running, it ticks over just fine from cold.

Now If I can get away with no choke in the UK, sure you can as well.

Oh come on...

You have to run a choke just to gas-out all the critters moving into your garage when the weather gets colder.

Take the choke parts off and deposit them in the nearest recycling receptacle.
