Default Tool question

Since I have nothing more to do for a few months until I get my car (except decide on the paint color that is ), I figured I'd take this time to pick up a couple things I will need and was wondering what you guys use and like.

Any recommendations for a good timing light? Also, I want to get an exhaust gas analyzer. Years ago my dad had an exhaust gas analyzer that would you tell you the air/fuel mixture- made adjusting the carb very easy. Does anyone know if someone still makes these??

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Mike,

I just talked to our NAPA man and he looked up three or four different types of exhaust gas analizers which were available. He said the book gave Cal-Tools as the maker of some of them and some are like a small briefcase and have digital readouts. He also said the price of some of them was quite a bit. But you can call your NAPA store and they should have the same information as ours does.

If you are willing to weld a bung or two in your exhaust manifold -

Air-fuel ratio gage

This setup is a bit crude (and I believe it has a fairly narrow range), but it's cheaper than a professional tailpipe probe.

Don't forget you will need a good heavy lead hammer to beat those wing nuts on and off.

Ron-
I'll try Napa. Not looking for anything fancy- don't need a digital print out, just a basic meter.

Bob-
I don't know that I am that desperate to see the air/fuel mixture that I need to weld any bungs, but I will keep that in mind.

Cranky-
Don't worry- I have already ordered and taken delivery of the lead hammer. Next thing to order will be the safety wire kit

Anyone else have any ideas . . .

Thumbs up

I got my timing light at Kragen (kragen schucks checker) It was $80 but gives you a digital readout for rpm, volts, and has a timing advance feature for curving your ignition on the car.. dial up the advance you want at a given rpm, get the rpm up and dial in the distributer.. piece of cake..
