fuse block ment for out in engine compartment

On "Shade Tree Mechanic" or what ever they were called then. There was a product shown .It was a fuse block w/cover.I did't realalize I'd be looking for in then. My old glass fuse block is under left rear corner of hood on drivers footbox. Rain drips in on the fuses and causes corroasion.I want something more updated but dependable.Will straighten out wiring as I go.Not a whole lot of gagets on this car ,so not a lot of circuts.

Move it out of the rain. Under the dashboard is a popular spot.
Maybe the boaters out there know of a water resistant fuse box.

Can you emagine trying to get under the dash to check a fuse at night? I know it works in a sedan.I'm not on board yet.

Two comments for you -

First, I moved the fuse box for my ERA from the "standard" position, which was up high on the firewall in the engine compartment, to the backside of the firewall in the interior. In the five years the car has been running, I have not once had to check a fuse (though, as you pointed out, I WOULD nearly have to "stand on my head" to do it).

Second, you might look at some later model cars - many of them have a fuse box, or sometimes a "secondary" fuse box, out under the hood. They typically have plastic covers over then to protect from weather. You might have to look at "furrin' cars" to find a smaller one that that doesn't have 250 slots for electrical accessories.

Michael, I bolted a hinged aluminum plate
to the passengers door jam/post and attached the fuse box to the plate, it swings out, easy to work on or replace fuses. I built a fiberglass panel covered with carpet that hides it.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but Bussman has a product on their website called the "Vehicle Electrical Center" which appears to be a protected fuse panel. You can check it out at:

Check under "Products" and then it should be the top choice in the list. From their description, the panel has a cover over the fuses and can handle up to 200 amps of current. Perhaps this will help?

On the back of my fues box mounted a flat piece and on it Velcro and put it under the dash and take it down if I needed.

I'm inpressed on the responses. I liked the swinging fuse pannel idea. The Bussauto website had some nice items.The lucas stuff is an option. As I remember Shelby 4000 series have fuses pannel high on firewall in engine compartment centered behind engine.I'd like to look around some more before I jump.I want to reorganize almost the whole cars wiring.I want to do this once and get it overwith.The "velcro" is also an doable option.

The ERA cars (and the Shelby cars, I believe, although I wouldn't swear to that) use the Buss S8 fuse blocks as listed on the Buss website. These fuseblocks come in units up to 12 fuses. My car has two rows of four fuses mounted on the driver's side of the firewall behind the engine. These are, however, open fuse blocks which use the standard 1 1/4 X 1/4 fuses. I didn't think this is what Mr. Henry was looking for as he seems to be more concerned with protecting the electrical connections from the liquid sunshine in Washington.
