is this manifold stock?
Hi all
I finaly got a day free to rebuild my carbs and when i peeled them off i was a little surprised at the manifold interior. (no i dont mean the caramel fuel coating the whole thing, or the 1/2" of fuel sitting in the bottem)is it oem stock or ford after market? PICTURE IN MY GALLERY (cant quite sqeeze it in here) please also take a stab at why my carbs would emty themselves out in the manifold after sitting a few days. thanks as always Karl |
Looks like an oem stock. If it has a casting number such as c6ae or something like that, then it definitely is a ford piece.

Usually about the only thing that will allow the gas to seep out is a bad power valve. Other than that if there is a crack or porosity problem. I would bet on the power valve.

427 low rise..
It appears to be a C3AE-9425 A 427 low rise unit used from 63-65
Little dirty though.. Definately an over rich condition inside and out. |
Scobrac,
Thats just it ! Icant find a casting # on that thing, How did you arrive at that # where am i not looking ? |
Hi Karl,
The Ford number would be on the number one runner. I can see the Fomoco Oval under the fuel rail. From what I hear not all had a number. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong here. I have one sitting in front of me and it looks like a twin. |
Sal...............
Is yours a low rise or mid rise ? Karl |
It's a low riser C3AE-9425-K. Karl check your head numbers. Post your numbers and I will tell you what you have. They are in between the spark plug holes on the head.
|
Sal, casting 3 on head-c5aef== mid rise?
|
Your heads are medium risers. Email me and I'll send you a part numbers list that I have. I guess the heads and intake are compatable but I would like to hear from others on this.

A funny thing happened on the way to performance.
When Ford went to the Med riser, several things changed from the old low riser. The one you can't see with the intake on the engine is the port height. The ports are actually bigger on the low riser....at least visually. What changed on Med Riser is the floor of the port was raised about 1/4-3/8" to increase air flow. Same thing as "D porting" did for Chev heads. It is not a good idea to use a low riser manifold on med riser heads for this reason. The mis match at the bottom of the port will create turbulence and disturb proper air flow. In short, it will steal power and give the owner fits trying to sort out why the engine falls on its nose at mid to upper rpm. Yes, the engine will run.....just not right. Al |

Sure looks like a dead ringer (cept it clean) but im sure ive been told low rise and med rise have very different mating angles.
also this engine sure dosnt stumble, the only thing stopping the revs is my fear of blowing it up. Karl |
Karl look on the bright side. You could buy a new Blue Thunder from Carl's Ford Parts for $575.00. ;) Carls Ford Parts

Sal,
and you are sure you're holding a low riser? positive? i think you are because i dont think there was a mid rise in 63  |
From what I see I would certainly say that I have a low riser. A medium riser runners are opposite the high low staggering than a low riser. While going over my books I come to realize that the Tri-Power(2x3) setup on my 390 Mustang is not a good match neither. Sometimes after a hard run the garage reeks of fuel?? Karl I think you opened up my eyes here!! I guess the Tri-Power setups were for the early 390's that did not have the GT heads! HMMMM anybody out there.......HELP!
