Brake and Clutch switch for EM ?
Anyone have any idea what switches to use for brake lights and clutch on an EM? Also suggestions on how to mount them would be appreciated as well.

If you email at home tonight, I can send you the info... it is a pretty generic switch for the brake lights, not sure what switch you are looking for with the clutch pedal (typo?).
I have seen some manufacturers use an in-line brake light switch - I guess it senses a pressure change. EM's is a plunger style contact switch. email; 427cobra@ameritech.net or reply on this post with a fax number and I can send you a sketch w/part numbers. - Dan |
Found some stuff at lunch...
The switch I'm using is from KEM, p/n EG1072HD "Stoplight Switch" - plunger style. Bought it at Forest City Auto Parts here in Cleveland. I took a piece of 1" wide 1/16" thick mild steel and bent it to 90 degrees, probably about 4" x 3" or so. Drilled the 3" section with two clearance holes for 1/4-20 bolts fastened into the top of the footbox. One hole was drilled for the switch about 3 inches down, (on the 4in leg). The switch is threaded with two nuts so you can adjust it fore and aft. I don't think the distance from the top of the footbox to the switch is critical as long as there is enough travel to let the switch turn off/on, (the switch hangs between you and the pedal) The plunger should be facing forward and completely depressed by the pedal in its up position, this is the 'normally open' position... as you depress the pedal the plunger will release - making the switch closed and turning on your lights. EM was kinda vague on installation, but my manual from about mid 1990's, shows a picture of the install on page 103. I can fax the picture to you, but would be kindof difficult for me to scan/email. It's a little kludgy, but it works fine once adjusted. On a hard bump, sometimes the pedal will move off the switch enough to flash the lights, but its not a big problem. - Dan |

thanks for the information. I should be able to handle it form here. I wanted to rig a switch to the clutch pedal so the I couldn't start the car unless the clutch was depressed. Think I will use the same method as the brake switch you described. Thanks again for your help |
