Goodyear racing tires
I am ready to replace the tires on my car,I want to go with goodyear racing,,either the vintage blue streaks or preferrably the dt{dirt track} special series,I am sure I saw cars with these at saac in nashville,26.5-8X15 and 26.5-10X15,but now I can only find the 8 inches listed anywhere,I want to stay with the correct size and racing letters.
any one have knowledge of if i can buy these tires or where I can get a deal ? wonder how hoosiers with goodyear spraypainted on will look ? hehe thanks,,Tk |
I bought mine from Shelby Enterpises in Carson, CA. They were about $800 for the set and are the large block tread variety. Shelby refers to these tires as the "Cobra" tire and are only available through them. Hope this helps!

It should ship on June 20. It still needs to be painted and the engine needs to be finished and installed. I would think mid-August to labor day before I see it.

Goodyears
Those tires are actually listed as the 'Cobra' tire in the goodyear catalog. I got a call from Kraus a couple of weeks back saying they are available again. $800 is about right. Remember, they are NOT DOT.

i'm going to assume you're talking about the cobra's in the vintage race. if so, you can call shelby enterprises in california. this is where i get mine. the are "short track" stock car tires. they are track only not for street use. there are two differenet compounds for the front tire. the softer compound with more grip and less life is 2994. the tire with the harder compound, less grip (vs 2994) and more tire life is 2272. the rear tire compound is 2373. a set of 4 should be less than $800. in the denver area i can buy them for about $110 per tire. i think shelby prices are similar. i buy mine from shelby enterprises thru the children's foundation. these tires have been compared on the track with the hoosiers. based on testing with the challenge cars, the goodyears have just slightly more grip. if i remember correctly, the cost of the goodyears vs the hoosiers is a bout the same over the life of the hoosiers. meaning, the goodyears won't last as long, but the number of goodyears you'll go thru for one set of hoosiers - the cost will be about the same. hope this helps |

Good news
Bluestreaks were previously made in Chile where the quality control was done by Juan Stupido. I had a few that had to take over 4 ounces of weight which is not acceptable.
***They are now being made in the USA. Expect production soon. I have seen them and they look better than previous. |
the short track tires i was refering to have been great. i use the softer compound and have been very happy. i do race and the tire last easily 4-5 heat cycles. i usually need to replace them due to the heat cycles rather than a lack of rubber remaining

Heres a set, I love them on and off track. However, I'm certainly taking a risk driving them on the street because they are not DOT approved. Been pulled over, and it was never questioned or given a second glance However, get in a serious accident and something leads investigators to the tires and I'm screwed, Insurance and liability wise, but they sue look good. No pun intended.

110-125$ tires
The ones in that price range are SLICKS. The ones with tread are about 200. They where temporarily unavailable while Goodyear moved the operations back to the States and I have heard that the quality is better.
The insurance and liability issue for non DOT approved tires is a very "iffy" proposition. I talked to several Cops, my insurance agent, read the state laws and the underwriters policy. No where and no one says they must be DOT. In Ohio. BUT, given the oportunity, I would not put it past the insurance adjuster to try and use it against you! Now if you run the slicks, that is a different story. You must have a minimum tread depth in every state that I know of! Rick |
I have the slicks (around $125) for the track and the treaded version (around $200) on the street and love em both!

I assume that everyone who is running these tires has 15" wheels. I really perfer the original looks of the 15" vs. 17" wheels.
Is there any real disadvantage using the 15" setup instead of the new and improved 17" tires and wheels. For the short runs that I have been doing (6 to 10 laps) I don't see any real need to incure the expense of a 17" setup with 200 mph rated tires. Does anyone know what the tread wear rating is for these Goodyear in the slick version? I didn't see it when looking up info at the Goodyear Site. Thanks, TL :MECOOL: |

These are the tires under the heading TREADED and "Cobra" at this website: www.rogerkrausracing.com/GYVintage.htm It should be noted that I had to hand paint the lettering with white paint, 4 coats before it looked good. The factory white paint is awfull and had to be removed. |
