Have power steering in my CR, works perfectly, and I love it.
Get a '79 - '85 Mustang power rack rebuilt by AGR. Standard ratio, high effort valving. Summit has them. Use either a Ford, or Saginaw (GM style) pump. Low drag versions of both rebuilt by AGR from Summit. I used the Saginaw because Ford uses them on pickups and vans with recirculating ball steering boxes, so the brackets are for a Ford engine. RB's Antique automotive sells a low pressure valve for the Saginaw pump that decreases power assist and increases road feel.
The trick now is to make a high side, and return line to match the Ford rack to the Saginaw pump. You;ll need the return side fitting from Ford. From the auto supply store you'll need a GM hose, and a Ford hose. All you need are the steel fitting ends. I had a hydraulics shop mate the ends as the hose is only about 8" long. If you have a shop that makes power steering lines to order, this would be simpler. The return line is ordinary fuel injection line hose.
Final tip: Put the cap back on the pump before trying to bleed the air out or you'll get PS fluid all over everything. If I had to do again, would use pully chucked into drill instead of starting and stopping engine.
